Switched to Redline.........

So then upon getting my car back from the body shop after 4 months of downtime, I immediately switched to Redline 20W 50 (after extensive research) to see if any noticable benefits can be found.

Since the FD was out for 4 months I had almost forgot what it felt like to drive the car. But the car seems to pull stronger after shifting up to the next gear. Before it took a split second to pull, but now it pulls immediately right after I shift, which of course felt better. I don't have any temp gauges so no help there.

I also noticed that my catback sounds a bit louder, I don't think it could be the change in oil, could it? But it's definetly deeper than before

All in all it's too early to further conclude anything else, but some of the other good things mentioned about synthetic oil such as smoother idling was apparent as well. Gas consumption didn't improve, still at ~200+ miles per full tank. I'll also have to check the oil consumption as well.

My mods:

HKS Carbon Ti catback
HKS downpipe
Sensitive butt dyno

do you do a lot of hard city driving? 200 miles per full tank is pretty bad otherwise.

Actually, I don't....... I usually never to WOT unless I have to or unless I want to. The first turbo/low end power is good enough for me to get around town. Plus I usually don't boost 2nd turbo either; it might get spooled but don't usually go over 4k rpms.

OEM spark plugs (all 9s) changed 5,485 miles ago.
OEM spark plugs wires changed 2,684 ago.
Redline MT-90 changed 2,104 ago.
RP Max Gear changed 2,104 ago.

Still have to do fuel filter. Other than that my car boosts fine now and pulls a bit stronger. I hate my MPG tho. I also throw in a small bottle of MMO in the gas tank after oil change as well.

Is there anything else that I should/could do?

No no no, no way.... I've had my fun times in this FD and let it be known that the FD is one amazingly fun car to drive around. I still boost everyday, but not to where it's like I'm on a race track 24/7 or abuse the **** out of the car.

I usually get around 15-16 mpg with my 'modded' setup. And that's running super rich ... "hey, I can smell it." Maybe you live in a really hilly part of the Bay Area .... otherwise, I might start checking for a leaky injector or non-functioning pulsation dampener.

Oh, and I, too, liked Redline better when I switched to it. I have since then switched to Royal Purple and like that even more.

Wait until you start leaking oil, then your in for some fun!
Unless of course you have already removed the oil pan gasket and used something like Hondabond.

There is no point in owning an FD if you keep it under 4000 rpm. Drive it or sell it!!

I get around 12 mpg. Almost all city driving.....frequently over 6000 rpm

well i think i could bottle up my exhaust and reuse it as fuel running as rich as i am. i didnt just shoot a flame on the freeway it was a constant inferno for about three seconds at about two feet long from what my friend told me. my brother was video taping it but i pulled in front of my friend and missed it on the tape. with that being said, i get about 11-12 MPG in the city and 16-18 on the highway when not driving like an ***. get it tuned well, make more power, and get better gas milage if you dont take advantage of the power. i rarely go above 4K for driving around town, but redline it about 100 times a day

I think unless you race youre car often Mobil 1 will offer plenty of engine protection.I use Redline in my transmission and diff too much $$ to replace oil. Better chance of a failer to the motor from o-ring, apex seal, or leaning out.

Have you tried using all three before? If so what were the differences?

Thanks.

I did notice smoother running with Mobil , and at $4 per quart its not too bad for the extra performance. I just think its over kill to be running such expensive oils like Redline and others in a daily driven on the street FD there are no oil related problems with the 13BREW you have a better chance of a o-ring failer killing youre motor first?
