Swapping Solenoids

I've always been curious as to which solenoids are swappable on the solenoid rack.

I took some FC solenoids when I was at the junkyard last week, and they have the same part number as the FD's (AESA127 I believe)

What's are the differences? Which can be swapped?

solenoid rack:

Air Bypass Valve
Double Throttle
EGR
Charge Control
Pressure Regulator
Secondary Air Bypass

others:
Purge Control
Charge Relief

Wastegate Control & Turbo Precontrol - I heard these are swappable

Turbo Control - unique

Finding which ones can be swappable can be beneficial to those who snap critical solenoids on the rack during a hose job, as accessories such as the ABV, EGR, and Double Throttle can be eliminated and free up a few working solenoids.

Match the part numbers then test them to be sure the junk yard parts work.

If they look the same they are swappable I think I ve arranged them in everyway possibble but always stuck with that theory and have never had any problems.

PLEASE NOTE: Im not saying this is absolutely true (CMA)Im saying I have tried what I think is every way possible w/this theory of looks and have never had any problems.

Well....
I took an ohmmeter to them and they are all within 10%. I know they all logically function the same.
But the 93 parts fiche has 4 different types/part numbers. Maybe there is a different internal spring or restrictor.

I wouldn't be surprised that they are different routing wise because there are 3 nipples and 2 different ways that the air could possibly be routed through w/o power going to them and w/ power the channel would switch so in my mind its either __ __ or __ | w/ no power or the reverse w/ power. But obviously there cannot be that many combinations. REMEMBER TO USE A TORCH on the hoses before you try and remove them! this will help soften the rubber and make them easier to slit! *note don't use a torch if you have removed your fuel lines - duh* use a torch then slit w/ a razorblade or box cutter since it is easier on your hands. My $.02.
Try this... blow through the metal end and see where the air comes out of. Put a 12v charge to the connectors and see where it switches to. find one that does the same and there you go you can change them... this theory has not been tested yet but the logic behind it is good.

hmmm interesting theory. Since theyve already been ohm tested...the only difference is the routing. Sounds good to me. Right now I have my double throttle solenoid connected to the turbo control solenoid on the solenoid rack. Im getting boost, but its not working properly.

All of the solenoids that are located in the rack are interchangeable. The reason for different part numbers is that some of them have a filter on one side. That filter can be pulled off with a liittle care. Those solenoids are universal in their routing. I have switched plenty with no ill effects.

Most excellent Smithers

This should help a lot of people who break solenoids
