It is possible for you to swap the dashboards. It should be a strait forward swap. There is no passenger side airbags on 93 dashboards so you will have to remove your entire airbag assembly from that side of the car. Also, the glove box is different so you will need one of those as well.

You will need to wire the passanger airbad into the existing airbag harness without setting them both off in the process, good luck.

Since you've had an engine fire, I'd assume your engine harness is a little toasty? If you're buying a new one anyways, might as well get the '94 harness so it will have the harness for the passenger airbag. Either that, or you could find a wiring diagram for both years and see if you can splice the appropriate wires. Thats iffy though, I don't know if I'd trust it.

ok theres the airbag sensor wires that run through the engine compartment...they go to an airbag brain or something right? are there a separate passenger compartment run from the computer to the abs units? maybe id have to get a 94 brain or something... what controlls the aribags, and where is it?

Check out the Factory Service Manual for locations of airbag sensors and "brains." If you don't have one, it's available online at www.iluvmyrx7.com in PDF format. You should be able to find that info there.

Gmonsen had his 95 dash replaced with a 93. I believe KD did the work.

I'd stay away from adding/removing airbags into/from the system for insurance reasons. I'm not sure about our FD's specifically, but many cars have matching seatbelts designed to "give" on an airbag protected seat.

Swapping the dash alone shouldn't be an issue though. Just don't wire in the new bag.

So 93 dash into 94?? Sure you can.. just don't plug in the passenger air bag.. but you might get errors.. unless you change out the ecu.

is the airbag controlled by the by the engine computer?? cause mine is going in the garbage... im putting a different motor/ECU in my car. id like to put in a 94 dash in because the previous owner put holes in it and id like to have a functional passenger airbag. i cant understand why they would have a driver airbag but not a passenger one?? i dont know... id be just as worried about a passengers safety as my own...especially w/ a high HP car.

why do the guys who are setting up racecars take out their airbag? it stops you from breaking your kneck in an accident......

the 93 dash does not have a place built into it for an airbag. It was never offered as an option. You can put the 93 dash in a 94 but forget about hooking up the air bag, it just wont work.. It was not designed for one..

Its real simple guys, The dashes are interchageable but the airbags are NOT. I wouldnt even try to wire in the 94 air bag in a 93. If you get in a wreack your insurance can void your claim, I wouldent worry about the car but the passanger not being coverd is big.

even if the 94 wiring is installed? even then the insurance could void the claim? how would they know the car didnt come w/ an airbag?

The claim is all up to the insurance co. & their claims adjustor(s).

The industry has the manufacturors' safety equipment and specs. They may overlook whether your car originally came equipped with a second oil cooler or not, but you can be damn sure they know about the original safety equipment.

If you were the insurance co. and you found out someone was making an injury claim on a car with a modified airbag system, would you just let that pass and fork out the $$$?
