I posted a long time ago the build of my own car. I had some very incorrect weight figures, which me and the people who built my car had predicted wrong, off by a few 100 lbs. You can search and find the thread. The reaction I got was instant and harsh, it was hard to come back to the forum after it. The thing that brough me back was the people who welcomed my mistake and helped me correct it.
Really not trying to tell you what to do, but sometimes a troll is just someone making a mistake.

And i also agree that there is alot of "harshnesss" that goes on here towards newbs. i think that is b.c alot of seasoned guys do try to help but in the end get fed up b/c most of the newbs now a days are those boy racer kids that bought the car for 8k then talk **** when their car doesnt run right. the average age of newbies went from low to mid 20s to 16-17 yr old kids. i recognize that age isnt soemthing that should be used against a person when judging a person's character but lets be honest here what do most 16yrs know about owning a high performance and tempermental car like a fd?
back on topic, to the original poster. i say get the fd. its a sick *** car the only moral here is to buy a good clean example with low miles for top dollar. it truly is a drivers car. there really isnt anything outthere that will be as fun to drive. the rotary engine loves to rev there is nothing like it in my opi9nion. thats why i have owned them for so many yrs now.
[QUOTE=mirabile]I think I see. So those people who are whiney bitches are all the ones who have scrapped their rotary for a LS1, or only the guys who whine about how the rotary is a POS after they scrap it??

no actually. that was just an example. lets not make this into a ls1 vs rotary debate. going ls1 is a great for some people. i myself like the fd b/c of the rotary. what i meant is the perspective of these people. they think the rotary is **** b.c the one they bought is a beat piece of ****. the people that complain and whine do so because of their own stupidity is what i am saying. they chose to buy a pos or they modded it incorrectly. if u dont want to take the time to research and "follow the rules" so to speak then what gives them the right to bad mouth the car and give the rest of us a bad name. the problems they encounter stem from their own stupidity and immaturity. Fort example, my car and many others have been running flawlessly for yrs while making 150 more rwhp then stock.

After FnF every 14 year old and boy racer thought they knew more about the FD than the owners themselves. Just not too long ago I had one guy come up to me and try to tell me that not all FD's come with a turbo setup. Which is fine al lot of people ask that. Except this kid was sure that I was mistaken and was actually debating this with me. Yeah bro I've been an FD owner for 8.5 years but you know more about my car

Why im not supposed to admire another car thats NOT an FD??
Some logic you have. Seems like you're a bit offended at anything against rotary.
I think thats a problem you need to correct yourself.

How am i talking **** about it?
When i say its unreliable, a supra is a better car IMO, car is finicky etc etc?
Thats not talking ****, thats laying down facts. That doesnt mean i hate my car, that means i can accept what the car is and what the car isnt. Something ALOT of you guys should understand.
What you see is something you dont wanna hear. And that my friend i cant help you with.

if the supra is better then go buy a supra. an rx7 is all about the rotary. thats what makes it special in my mind. the 7 is a completely different car. u cant analyze specs or read consumer reports to find out which is better. the 7 is an acquired taste. nothing compares to it in my opinion. its all about the beeeeeeeep, shift!
if u want reliability go buy a civic, if u want torque go buy an ls1. if u want to smile like a ******* clown while ripping thru the gears and hearing the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep to remind u to shift then buy a 7.

A 911 turbo is a better car than the FD and i love that car more, does that mean i have to buy it? NO.
It costs more, costs more to fix and is useless at this time of my life with insurance and residence right now.
You may seem i put the FD down alot and it might look like that but im not. If i hated the car soo much, it would have been gone. Why would i talk **** just for the sake of talking ****.
Basically you guys see something you dont wanna see. You guys wanna see a forum world of all happiness of yes its great, wonderful, lets put our rotors together and sing. No it doesnt work that way, theres a flaw, im pointing it out, if you like it thats cool, if not, dont read it or ignore it.
And im saying its better by experience, which is also my opinion. If you wanna go against someone else's opinion, then you have problems my friend.
1quik7 ...knowing u ur a good guy. but u do put the fd DOWN ALLLOOTT!! but you also give props...SOMETIMES I DONT BLAME YOU......but dont be a bad critic all the time!!!...lol

stuff like poping the hood and letting it sit with the hood popped open for 3-5 mins after a drive would make the 7 last alittle longer.

I believe that is where Matty and NJ are basing your "dislike" for the car from.
You're right, it does seem like that.
But like i said i dont mean it literal.
Not like i go in any random thread and go rotary sucks, dont buy rx7s etc etc.
If its a subject related to that part, i might go ahead and say something about it. But i dont do it intentionally to make it seem like im always ragging on the car.
Idk, i guess im posting in the wrong threads? lol
u are right....there is one major flaw with the RX-7.........the operator.
i owned a turbo II for 3 years before i decided to chase the FD.....in those 3 years i went through 2 motors and countless hours of pain and struggling......i knew NOBODY with a 7 and found myself learning everything about them first hand.....the hard way.....rebuild after rebuild i grew more confident in my understanding while grasping the concept of operation entailed with these awesome machines.......and after finally getting my beloved FC to the point where i was satisfied.....i realized i was ready.....and sold her. i began researching further on the FD and finally saved enough coin to actively persue my dream and finally get one......after 6 months of disappointing test drives i finally found one about 400 miles away from home that caught my eye.....upon seeing this beast face to face i knew it was the one for me and immediately dropped the cash on-site.....i was also considering getting a MKVI supra at the time....but i WANTED the 7 more....the drive is much more exciting for me and i cant put this car down at all.....everything about it is just plain awesome....
ignorance is the downfall to these cars....they only fail in failing hands....(or when pushed beyond their practical limits).... but when properly tuned and maintained..they last as long as your diligent care allows them.....knowledge is key.....without it you will just end up another horror story for us to sort out.

I think there are people who read magazines, watched carshows, or get on the forum and talk ****.. but the true enthusiasts are the ones who actually turn wrenches. Ive met so many BS car enthusiasts who has never worked on their own cars and acts like they know everythings (because they read something, somewhere)... LIKE most NSX owners! LOL!
One thing I appreciate owning my FDs is that it made me into a true enthusiast.. Because things go wrong and we try to fix it or try to improve it. Supra owners and new sports car owners just have it easy... what fun is it if nothing breaks and you can't get your hands dirty?? LOL! Rotary owners in my mind are the true enthusiasts!! Most of us know more about cars in general than any other import car owners... hands down!! well, except for those who owned their car for less than 2 years or burnt out because they can't fix it and left to go put some V8 in it.. LMAO!

I picked up another FD a couple of weeks ago, and I am working on it currently. I've been through a few motors in my FD but I've finally decided to go things right... I kept trying to budget my way, or skip some tuning.. or whatever. Regardless, I've worked on my FD for many various reasons.. and I'll bad mouth the car all I want WHILE i am working on it... but.. when she works right.. its priceless.
I do like the Supra's, but they still don't turn as many heads as a nice looking FD, besides the FD is easier to work on. I've got my hands into some supras and those things are so damn packed, try doing a turbo swap... not fun. My friend had over 100k into his supra, pure show car.. made 991hp on his hks twins...
But anyway.. I'm 6'3" and I fit into the fd, haven't hit my head the liner or any of that. I enjoy it, and I've made several long distance trips in it. I suppose it gets uncomfortable after about 4-5 hours cause my leg starts to cramp up.. lol.. but thats not something you should worry about too often.
Best of luck to you, and welcome to the board. Hopefully you'll find yourself in a 7 soon.

I agree with Matty. I'm at the point where I just work on these cars. The owners ask questions and I give them my best advice. If they choose not to listen and break the car, I don't feel bad about it.
i love my FD, plain and simple. the previous owner didn't know what they were doing and abused her, so now after less than 200 miles of ownership, i have to have the engine rebuilt. it's my fault for not checking it out properly, but it's said and done so i'm moving on. every one of my car-loving friends think i'm insane for owning an FD, and even more insane for working on her. but as far as i'm concerned, there's no other car like her and i have no problem with making a few sacrifices here and there. FD's have a lot of shortcomings, but at the end of the day, they make up for them and then some. just my $.02...
To the OG poster, you may want to look at speedforsale.com to get a face-to-face comparison (prices, mods, milage, etc.) of FDs, MKIVs, (that is if you own one... I still don't recall if you said anything about which car you own) and other really quick cars.
IMHO, I love my 3rd gen whether or not it breaks on me. And you know what? Almost every time I've had a problem, it was MY FAULT for not knowing better. My advice to you is to NOT BUY ONE RIGHT AWAY. Read around, read the FAQs, learn about the nature of the problems people have had (not just engine, but suspension, brakes, etc.). Only then you'll know what you're getting into. If you're not willing to get your hands dirty, then you MUST have a rotary knowledgeable mechanic to work out your issues.
Another thing you might want to look at, regarding engine life: rotary engine life by Kevin Landers
Finally, I love the MKIV too. I think it looks great, definitely goes fast, and is pretty freakin' rare. Just like the 3rd gen
I'll always be partial to a 3rd gen though, and if there's anything I can do to keep one in my garage, you can bet I'll do it!
