4.5 0-60 in a stock 7...no. but a 4.9 has been proven. but on the topic, the 7 is a VERY needy car but if you have the patience to deal with it in the long run it will bring you many joys! whatever you plan to do i wish you the best of luck!

Stock for stock they are pretty evenly matched in straight line. I know from first hand experience. The supra couldn't pull away nor could I pass.

Scotty: Yep, my suspension is modified. I'm running full TEIN coilovers and some BFG KDW's. Not race tires, but pretty sticky IMO. I might try 315's out soon.

I guess part of the reason I'm looking at the 7 is because, in my opinion, the Supra image has plummeted. No offense to anyone, but the Supra has very much become "the middle-class redneck's car of choice". Again, not the entire reason, but definitely part of it.

And you're looking at an FD? Bwahaha. This car's ownership has changed from well-to-do enthusiast to kids buying the cheapest parts they can off Ebay....

Really? I always figured the opposite.
I have a friend who built a T04R FD and from what I heard, the cost of it sounded prohibitive to any immature owners.

Sounds like those 'kids' who buy FD's won't have them for very long anyways. Good for some, bad for the poor FD's those people are destroying.

Spend 10 minutes surfing the forum. You'll change your opinion.

Some don't. Some keep the car limping along by ghetto-rigging everything. And then sell it. I'm just glad I found my unmolested '95 5 years ago.

The kids buy ragged out rx-7s for the 8-10k they managed to save up or better yet got from mommy and daddy. They spend all the money on a car that is beat to ****, the car breaks down, then they cry when they can't afford to fix it. Its one of the reasons the rx-7 community went so downhill. This is a car that requires much more investment both time and financial wise than most other cars.

Oops, it was a T51R he built, my bad. HKS always confused me :P

I fully expect there to be immature members on the boards, internet is full of retards. But everytime I see a person driving an FD on the street I can't help but think: He knows exactly what he's up to. Same can't be said about the Supra anymore (IMO anyway).

The 7 turns heads, is fast, agile, fun, and unique. If you're an avid car lover and put time into your vehicle, the 7 is a perfectly good choice. Research, get the right one, and you wont be let down. Be patient and learn to love the car because going from a 2jz to a 13b will make you think these cars are the most unreliable in the world.

The rx7 community downhill? Go buy a porsche or something. Remember, this is a mid 90's-fast and the furious-JDM. You HAVE to expect kids/tuners are buying these cars. I love the 7 just like any other guy here, but some of you guys act like this car is a ferrari.

Supra pulled better numbers when they first came out.

And throw a large single on an FD, then throw a large single on a supra.

You'll see the difference. IN power, reliability and headaches lol

You can't let stuff like that sway your opinion too much. You wind up over generalizing. Drive what you like and what makes you feel good. The people who spend there time on forums aren't totally representative of the actual owner community.

You'll always have your rednecks, ricers, snobs, engineer types and so on regardless of car brand.

Go drive one.

Cant help thinking some people are stuck somewhere where the sun dont shine.

The "Better than You" approch to life is very negative and duznt suit anyone.

Just read and make your own mind up.

No matter how much money you spend, how much time you put into these cars, they are worth it, i have a few friends that have supras and they are highly moded and make more BHP than mine but they would all gladly swap me if they could.

Just my 2pence worth.

lol at your post. noone is saying the car is a ferrari but being a 35k car brand new there was a certain kind of person that could afford one. now u got people buying pieces of **** for 8k or around the same amount of money u can buy an accord for. when i bought my car for 21k this place was a site where car enthuasist and track guys could hang out and learn about their cars. now its filled with little whinney brats that dont have hair on their **** yet. its terrible. they wonder why their 8k fd is such a piece of ****? there is nothing more fustrating to me then reading those posts.
Additionally there is a huge difference between what the perception was and is now after fastnfurious. i feel like a friggen boy racer when i get into my car. its terrible. but the fact is its one of the best sports cars ever made.
if u cant see that there is a "difference" in both the forum and the overall perception fo the car and its owners then well u havent owned your car for long.

As others have mentioned, browse the RX7club a bit, you can see there are plenty of kids as well as plenty of people who know what they're doing. The same thing is happening everywhere: with more people gaining access to the internet, there are also more stupid people with access to the internet.

It will also depend on which crowd you run with. It's possible you're growing out of the 'modded car scene' crowd, the people who like to list how many 'mods' they've done to their car. You might feel more comfortable at a track day event, it's a different crowd and you'll probably appreciate it. Those people are about the joy of driving and having a fast car, not just changing things for the sake of 'being different'.

Even you in your own forum are generalising.

It is attitude like this that makes people think just what you fear.

You will give people the impresion that its filled with "whinney brats that dont have hair on their **** yet"

thats a good post. i agree. but the problem still persists there are two very different owners around. one is like a cancer and the other is dieing off. but perhaps i too am just gettign too old for this scene (meaning the forum)but its due to the fact that there is a chnage going on.

Not that there is anything wrong with modding to be different/faster, right Scotty?
One of the best parts about the RX7 is the ability to modify it in a way that really fits what you want to do. This car has the ability to become whatever fits your personality, and if thats stock, great, if not, great.
PS. I feel like my RX is my ferrari, and I want to suck the headlights out of an F430 once the 20B is finished....

Rynberg- as a moderator, I am surprised you would be disapointed that more people are buying FD's, be they little bratty kids, who hopefully will grow up and become enthusiasts, or not. If you think mazda's sales base should remain limited to the enthusiasts thats fine, but that seems like tunnel vision to me. Mazda's rx8 and concept cars are obviously targeting the younger crowd, who believe it or not are getting older. People who started liking 3rd gens because of the fast and the furious are probably approaching their mid 20s.
I bought my 3rd gen 6 years ago, back when I guess you could call me a whiney brat. Ebay was the only way to buy parts back then, because I had no money. Things change, you come to appreciate the car, what it can do, and even when you have enough money to buy something more, many stick with it. So I support whoever wants one.
As for this or a supra...thats tough, both are great cars, this takes more TLC then a toyota, but if your willing to go through some pain once and a while, I think this can also be a more rewarding experience in the end.

Thats enough of my sh*t. I hope you get an FD

Ok matty enlighten me.

Did you not start off with little knowledge of the rotary ?

I and many like me have owned an FD for only 18 months and i like others have only followed people who are on this forums advice, therefore what catogary do you place us in seen as you only have 2 of them, the seasoned pro or the whiney little school kids ?

its posible to be a "newbie" and not a whiney bitch dont confuse the two. if u bought your car for 8k and then complain that its a pos then ultimately scrap the rotary for a ls1 then go around this forum and talk **** about the rotary then thats a whiney bitch and a troll. we have tons of those. BUT if u worked your *** off for a couple yrs to save up for a nice unmolested car and spend time reading and searching then u are just a newbie. huge huge difference.

You personally, i dont know. u can answer that though.

me personalyl, i bought my first gen when iw as 16...worked hard got the second gen. i always wanted the fd since it came out however i waiting till i graduated college before i bought one b.c i wanted a nice one. once i graduated and had a job lined up i began my search. i found a an untouched 15k mile 94 pep that was cherry for 21k. i bought it. i spend time on the big list, forum and gettign to know guys who could help me mod my car locally. most of the guys that were "senior" back then were track guys and young professionals.

sorry abotu spellign about tog o home from work
