street port... how do you know?

Besides taking the motor apart, is there any possible way to figure out if your housing has been ported in the past? Considering we're pulling low 13's with the g tech and only 8 psi of boost on the gauge I'm just curious....

Thanks
Chuck

A ported engine will pull less vacuum at idle.

i asked this same question before...

it will pull a lot harder from 6500rpm on an seamlessly until redline. It will have a much lumpier idle and take longer for the idle to settle. And the vaccume will be lower.

Thats exactly right in a normal engine you feel the real kick at 5000 to 6500 in a ported kick is 6k to 8k and obviously just bit harder

If you are basing your info on G-Tech you are getting off on the wrong foot. I have seen G-Tech times being off by more than a second (faster than actual time).

Yeah, well the car definitely has always had a lopey idle. And it pulls very strong to 8k. In fact if it wasn't for the rev limiter it would probably keep pulling. And depending on the idle speed, it pulls 12-14 vac. I don't know if this is related... but it also belows a lot of blue smoke when you first start it.

Sound like we might have a winner?

BTW. A g tech can be a very accurate tool in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. From my experience ET's are usually just about dead on, and trap speeds are usually around 5 mph higher than the track due to the fact that the g tech records the speed AT the 1/4 mark, and the track does it 60 ft before...

So is there any reason you can't up the redline to 9k or so if you have a standalone on a large streetport?

there is a VERY significant drop off after 8k in hp loss even on a streetported motor

We dont' have a stand alone ecu....

I've never had it over 8k btw. Does seem to pull hard up to that point though. May be just because we have a midpipe though. But I am curious about the vac being so low...

is it possible to have a streetport with everything else stock? or do you need a new ecu? maybe that's a route to find out...

Digging this thread up from a search, but I have the same question. I'm not sure if the motor has been upgraded, but it pulls like new. Are the things mentioned in the above quote a sign of a streetport? With the exception of the mods in my sig, the cars stock as far as I know.
