Strange noise and oil leak

My 94 just had a very strange noise and oil leak. One fairly cold morning (in the 30's) I started the car and it started making a slapping noise (like piston slap maybe, but no pistons so...). It did this for a short while (about a minute or so), then stopped for a short while (15-30 seconds), then started slapping again. I shut it down. I tried again later and got the same behavior. I decided to wait until late afternoon to try again. I fired it up and there was no slapping noise. I decided to not drive it. The next morning, I noticed there was oil under the car - a strip about 10-12 inches long and about an inch wide located near the passenger front tire about 12 inches in from the tire. I have checked several times every day since this happened and there is not a drop of oil under the car. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks.

You're going to need to trace that oil leak upwards and see where it's coming from.

Really hard to say on the slapping noise, you'll probably need to pop the hood and see if you can isolate where the noise is coming from.

Thanks for the reply! I took it to a shop to get it up in the air. They said there is a minor leak at the rear turbo intake. The odd thing is that it laid down a fair amount of oil one time and there has not been a drop on the garage floor since.

And it also hasn't made the noise since then either. Very strange. It could be just that I'm paying too much attention (looking for issues), but it seems to be running rougher and seems down on power too.

I've owned the car since buying it new in January 1995. The past couple of years I decided to get some necessary work done. During that time I've had a fair amount of work done, including larger radiator, second oil cooler, Power FC, new 99 spec turbos, Exedy organic clutch and lightened flywheel. The turbos, clutch and flywheel were installed just 5 months ago in June.

I'll keep monitoring it and post updates.
