PR stop-n-go 86F ambient TEMPS!

today during some heavy stop and go traffic with 86F ambient temps (thanks to weather.com so it may not be spot on to where I was) I saw some interesting temps...

My cooling setup:

-radiator.com race all alum radiator
-Evans coolant at 0psi
-cwr ducted dual 19-row mocal oil coolers with 180F thermostat
-ASP large IC
-seibon n1 copy vented hood
-pfc fan settings: 80-85-90

Temps:
pfc coolant: 101C
pfc air T: 79C
vdo oil (with oil pan temp sensor): 230F

normal? i never seen so high air temps before but they went down quickly once i was going over 45mph

Dude those are really high. My temps with a V-mount, non-vented hood, evans coolant, zero pressure radiator cap, and power fc programmed to turn fans on earlier are:

Stop-and-Go
Air 30C
Water 87C
Oil unknown

Cruising
Air 23C
Water 86C
Oil unknown

I suspect something is wrong.

those temps arent too far out of line. once you sit in traffic the sensors get heat soaked(water more so than the air). same reason the water temp reading goes up once you shut the car off after driving.

i assume by heavy traffic you mean 20-30 mins of just creeping along under 10mph.

if you worried get a water temp guage to show a better picture

yeah more like 45mins to an hour at less than 5mph

and isn't a water temp gauge redundant if I have the pfc commander display?

also, i forgot to mention that i had the ac on at full blast

i have read a lot of evans running hotter than just water/coolant "SUPPOSEDLY" due to its better heat transfer properties, but it also doesn't boil until a pretty high temp, so it should be ok...

i'm running 50/50 coolant/water mix and in the summer times (85+ degree weather) my air temps stay at around 40-50C, and my water temps can get up to about 95C while oil also hovers around 85-95C depending on driving

i do the opposite. i thought having the warm air at full bast is what lowered coolant temps. if you have the recirculate off, it pulls hot air outa the bay.

the ac is cooled by freon. the only benifit i could think of with blasting the ac is the hard lines giving off cool air??

i had the ac on at full blast to keep myself cool, nothing to do with cooling the engine. LOL

it probably added more heat at the condenser

I find it odd that you were hitting over 100C. In my experience the fans will kick on at 95C and push you back down to around 90C.

Air temp... not much I can think you will be able to do about, since you are crawling in traffic. However, you *can* roll down the window's (and open the sun-roof, if your model has one) and crank the heat... while it is uncomfortable for you, it is better for your engine than running the AC full blast on an already hot engine.

And... an easy conversion from Farenheight to Celsius is just to take the temp(celcius), double it, than add 30.

So 86C would be like 204F... not even Iraq gets that hot in the sun..

Holy hell, your air temps are nuts! I guess that's normal for creeping in traffic, even with your awesome IC Maybe it's the Puerto Rico humidity & air temp.... I usually never get over 60C in traffic (I have an M2 medium, koyo radiator, standard coolant/water ratio). Make sure to check your fans to ensure they're running, I had a similar problem last summer with water/air temps a little high... one of my radiator fans was dead.

EDIT: I get the highest air temps when creeping in traffic (stop 'n go, 10 mph or so), ~100 degF ambient temp, not sure about humidity... probably around 20-50% where I live. I have a stock located air temp sensor also...

That seems hot for a SMIC setup. I used to see those temps stuck in traffic in NYC traffic when I had my Greddy FMIC.

Double check that your fans are working at all speeds and that your rad is ducted.
