ive never heard of a horsepower gain... but im pretty sure your supposed to port the wastegate when running more boost then stock... it helps controll the boost better... i may be wrong

should port it when you have a midpipe b/c the lack of back pressure will cause the boost to spike.

you port it so you wont get boost creep. just makes it so you have a bigger hole to let pressure (exhaust gases) out.

I'm pondering this exact same thing since I'm about to throw a midpipe on the car and a couple other goodies. It seems like it would be easier to just put restricter plates where ever they need to be put to prevent boost creep/spike (whichever). If you do that though it seems like a waste of opening up your exhaust, I need to do more searching I guess.

just do it yourself. its really easy. just take off the turbos. and you just grind/mill the whole. i believe it was to 1.24" or you can just grind it down to a little less then what the flapper door covers. just use a dremel

The above is the hard part I was referring too lol. If that is much better than blocking the exhaust I would do that. I don't track my car ( no tracks around) and I'm not looking for high HP (310rwhp) so I think it would be best to put a restricter plate on until my turbos die and then just port the new set(?).

lol, just pull em off. nice joke.

anyways, yea, when you open up flow all the way through the motor boost can creep to unsafe levels and the wastegate is there to prevent those unwanted boost levels to protect the engine, it is not a performance mod but a safeguard.

Right - what the others said... porting the wastegate gives your stock turbos the ability to run higher flow without being overwhelmed. Once ported, you'll need to adjust your boost controller to compensate, but it should now run better and more stably overall.

You don't need to port your wastegate with a hi-flow cat, so don't worry about it.

If I ran a hi-flo cat would that be about the same as restricting a mid pipe?
