Stock FD reliability?

My cousin is looking into buying an FD. He's not a real "car guy", but he wants something that fast stock. He wants to buy a sports car that's unique and has a "cockpit" type feel in the drivers seat which the FD has. If he buys one, he won't modify it at all since he's not the car modding type. He's the type that just appreciates a totally stock car. So how reliable is a stock FD? I would think that reliability is not bad if the car is left completely stock. What should he look out for when buying a used one? Thanks for any input.

stock is not always better...you know what I mean anyways you always need to look at the ast, radiator, and guages. these things will help make sure the car lasts longer

these cars take a lot of maintence too and I would not recommend that your friend get one if he is not a "car guy"...if he will take care of it then I say go for it but it is a lot of work

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean he's not a "car guy" as in modifying and stuff. He can do regular car maintainance, (oil, coolant changes and minor stuff) and this will only be his weekend car. But are there going to be an exceptional amount of problems that he should consider another sports car since it doesn't have to be an FD?

IMO I would tell him to get a supra or a TT 300Zx.

This car is very picky about being loved and maintained in a freaky car guy kinda way.

The stock FD "can" be very reliable if you know how to treat a turbo car (ie letting the turbos cool down before shutting the engine off, etc).

To make the car more reliable, there are only a few things that would need to be done:

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/reliability.html

It really depends on how hard the driver is on the car. Too much is not good, too little is not good either (carbon build up). Without the proper car just about sports car will go to crap.

I've never owned an FD. I'm sure the reliability is not too far off from a Turbo FC, but I wanted a clear answer from FD owners. Plus I don't know too many people that leave their FD's stock. I don't wan't to give my cousin inaccurate advice.
