Stock Elbow ?

Just a quick question before I wreck my stock elbow. I was about to have a go at polishing the UIM and Elbow and stuff.

Is the stock elbow plastic? Therefore not really polishable by the usual means.

You could always powercoat it all to match... A nice silver or gunmetal...

Look a zerobanger's threads if you can find 'em.

I have to go digging in the rats nest next week to find a boost problem. I thought I would do the UIM while I had it off. So to save time I thought I could do the Elbow tonight.
Only thinking about polishing coz I'm a tart.

At least you asked before you spent hours trying to "polish" it like one of the members did last year.....(I apologize to whoever it was that did that, but I couldn't resist...)

that's hilarious

everything about it implies plastic
its light, it sounds like plastic when you drop it
I guess on the 93s they just did a great job matching the cast aliminum parts color when they painted it.

I made mine black like the 94s and 95s because it got so dirty all the time from working on the car. That's the first thing I'd usually rip off.

jdhuegel1: Doesn't powder coating require you to bake the material, thus plastic would melt? Can the elbow resist this? or were you talking about the UIM and such.

I maybe wrong about the powder coating process and just may be in need of clarification.

I looked and felt like plastic. Just wanted to double check. If it was Aluminium is was about to start chipping the coke of the inside.
I did rub it down with AutoSol which brought it up nicely.

I'm thinking that it could withstand it... The engine bay gets pretty damn hot. It's a weird plastic... Almost like fiberglass or something. I guess we could always test it... I'll donate mine to someone if they want to get it done.

Well I have already started to polish the UIM. I just wish I hadn't bought such a fine Grit wet n dry.

AutoSol metal polish cleaned up the elbow really well. Worth a try If you don't want the car off the road while paint dries. Just a wee suggestion.
