stock 5 speed or world class T5?

Considering an auto to 5 speed swap, which tranny should I get-stock or BW world class T5? I am looking at durability, price, availability, rebuild cost....etc. There is an adapter kit to fit the T5. Thanks.

I'm thinking on doing the swap also. What ever information you get, can you please pass it on to me.

The World Class T-5's aren't as strong IMO. That's why the newer Mustangs use the Tremec and the GM's went to the T-56... Stock is stronger. You could get a WC T-5 from a junkyard cheap, but how long will it last with the plans you have for your car?

Junkyard. Also try some of the different tuning shops like PFS and KD. Sometimes they have some "laying around"....

actually still considering domestic auto too. Too much lag on a single, even a rx6, for a decent launch with an auto. I never did get the line lock.

MAZDA ROTARY TO BORG WARNER T-5

KEP # 9000 Adapter kit fits most manual shift '74+ Mazda Rotary bellhousings to the Borg-Warner T-5 transmission (from the Ford Mustang GT '85+). The Mazda flywheel, clutch, starter and throwout bearing are retained. A Ford disc must be used. The T-5 transmission that is normally slanted 18º must now be mounted vertical.
Kit includes adapter plate, bolts, pilot bearing and instructions.

dunno how much...

i would get stock if i were you. its to much hassle to do the T5 swap...and why? what are your plans with the car? look around the FS section, thpartstrader, and places like that and you will find replacements.

on a side not....what everhappened to that GB for adapters awhile ago? actualy i dont think it was from kenedy. remember kurgen and greg wanted to do it?

Just dreaming really...engine's not stock, why should the tranny be? Wanted something reliable with plenty of available parts, no synchro problems, etc.

The T5 is known for breaking behind stock 5.0's. Used T5's are not cheap if they are any good, and I've been told by some 'stang-bangers that the first thing they do when they buy a 5-speed 5.0 is, if the transmission is still good/original, sell it "while it is still pre-broken" and upgrade.

I have heard that too. There are 2 different T5s, reg and world class. I think the world class is rated for 350 torque. Anyone know what the stock mazda tranny is rated at?

The WC is still rated for 300lb-ft. It's just a more *realistic* rating, although still a little low. The transmission was originally designed for 2.3l fourbangers, there's only so much you can do within those kind of constraints.

Notice that there never was a Camaro with a 350/5-speed... the T5 wasn't rated for the torque of the 350 but the 305 *just* fell inside rating. (All Camaro V8's, IIRC, had WC T5's) You had to wait until the 4th-gen to come out to get 5.7l and manual trans, the T56.

Too much lag with an RX-6 on an auto tranny? Upgrade your torque converter, change the stall to like 3200RPM or something, I would recommend a TH400 auto tranny.

I have a 3500 stall level 10 torque converter. With stock twins I could sometimes spin off the line, no more with the rx6.
