steering wheel conversion
I'd like to know if it's difficult to take the stock steering wheel off to replace it with a Momo wheel? I know that I would need an adapter. Are there any drawbacks besides losing the cruise control buttons and, of course, the airbag? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Do it right, I had someone do mine and they didnt know how to turn off the air bag light. I love flashing red lights ......Notice black tape covering Idiot light
As for crusie control I dont miss it, I have to many mods to not have my right foot on the gas. I am 6'1 and my MOMO has give me a few inches of leg room , and a much better road feel. The feedback from these steering wheels is great.

I would recommend a hub that has an airbag harness to disable the idiot light. Like this one:

Holy ****, my eyes almost poped out when I saw the site....
Rosenthal...... Them F--kers blew my engine four years ago. I wouldnt even buy a spare key from those crooks. They are still under investigation for selling SUV's to DC drug dealers. They took cash...how nice of them
But on a bright note, nice part!
Oops, sorry I vented on your thread

I just did this. Best mod to the car to date.
Look for the adapter above, (that vendor doesn't have any in stock right now - I know). Basically the hub and adaptor for the 90-97 Miata works on our cars - it retains the turn-signal cancel, it keeps the airbag light off, and it works a charm.

O.k guys, I have a friend that works at an electronics manufacturing company and he came up with a resistor that plugs into the air bag harness. This resistor tricks the computer into thinking the air bag is still there therefore allowing the light to go off. Anyone interested, let me know I will get in contact with him and ask him to make a bunch.

You can do two things for the air bag ligth:
1) You can get an steering wheel adapted which fits with the airbag harness (clockspring) assembly still installed. In that case all you have to do is jumper the two electrical leads that go to the airbag and that will turn off your light. It willl still come on when you turn the key to ignition but, will go off in a few seconds.
2) If you remove the clockspring assembly by 3 screws and unplug all wires from under the steering column, you use a 1 OHM resistor jumpered across the two airbag wires. I did not have a resistor so I used a piece of welding wire (about 8" long) that gave me 1 OHM resistance. Shrink wrapped it, coiled it up and placed it out of sight under the steering wheel cover. Works perfect.

Thanks
Thank you, everyone for your replies. They are helpful.
Nuvolari, nice steering wheel. I'll get one like it.
Audiobot, what is the name of that store and location?
C-man, I think I'll get a resistor.
Axr6, thanks for the detailed instruction. Is it easy to remove the stock wheel?
afterburn, sammyd, thanks for recommending the hub.

If yours is really tight you may have to rent/get a puller.
