steering column gauge pod

thanks to MakoDHardie and rx7speed811 in the Efinit Steering wheel thread for telling me what this is.

anyway, i have a few questions. rx7speed811 mentioned that the cutouts for the turnsignal and wiper stalks don't match properly so i was wondering if anyone could verify that for this product that rx7 store sells? is this something they made on their own or is this made by petit or re amemiya?

also, is it easy to wire up the boost gauge to that location without any unsightly wires or anything? thanks! i'm looking to replace the a-pillar mount i have.

Well alwan16 and I talked about this briefly at DynoDay...see I have Pettit...he has RE Amemiya..

Talking to Alex he made a little cut on the signal to have clearance for the levels...

My pettit fits well in that aspect, but really does not provide a very secure way of fastening to the lower half...RE's has some nice clips..

yup. what johnny said is correct. i used a dremel to fit the turn signal better. otherwise it would hit the column when taking a right turn.

you can route the wires so they can't be seen. it wouldn't hurt if you used all black wires or vaccuum hose though.

johnny...you are too quick with your replies! i thought i was the only procrastinator at work! hahaha.

As for what the rx7store is carrying...if you are paying around 100...it's probably Pettit's...

RE's is a few bills............

The RE piece is $199. The one the rx7store sells is Pettit's. The RE piece clips into place similarly to the stock piece. The Pettit has no fasteners, so you have to fasten it yourself (read glue, silicone, tape, etc.) The Pettit piece doesn't fit perfectly since it is a copy. It is a little larger than the RE piece that it was copied from since the fiberglass was laid OVER the original. For half the price though, it's not too bad.

I had the RE and it popped right end with no problem. The turn signal will rub the column when you flip it up. you can drimmel it out a little...no big deal. That's alot easier then trying to cleanly mount the petitt version. You can see my wires or lines. Just run them down the steering column. I ran the light wire to the ash tray light. It looks great in my opinion. Heres a link to a some pics of it.

Good Luck.

Hey atleast I came to dyno day...as for autocrosses...I'll try it one day. Need to sign up for SCCA and get lucky and get into one of them driving school deals...Still screwing with my suspension top shock mounts...busting bushings left and right...decided to dremel out the hole bigger that way my bushings wont bind and get screwed up.

As for the cost of the RE pod...it's usually in the $230-240 price range. Jason probably carries it...but I'm not sure...

The Pettit piece lines up very well. I just used a dab of black silicon to fasten it and let it sit overnight with rubberbands around the console. Been on there for over a year now. No problem with the wires or Autometer boost gauge...
