starting to get concerned..

well today was beautiful out... 60 degrees and all sun.. so i took the car out with my friend to get some times

he started timing from the second i let the clutch out until I hit 60-- and after about 10 tries the best time i got was 5.4 seconds

i have a ss downpipe, m2 cold air intake, and 700$ 3'' exhaust system - engine has about 3k miles

i would hope my times woudl be somewhat faster? im basically letting the clutch out at 3k and simultaneously slamming on the gas, I switch at about 7k to 2nd and take that to 60, where i switch to third...

any one have a link to a run through engine check to make sure I've got everything running ok? or anyone able to tell me an easy way to check all of the engine functions that corrolate directly with the cars power

the turbos were boosting a perfect 10-8-10 today

You're worried about your car because of the results of a 0-60 test using a stopwatch?

You need to relax......

Yeah I do ;\ I got the car just a few weeks ago and I just love it... However - I'm really not going to ever feel truly safe until I pop open the hood and investigate potential problems for myself. It just seems like it would be quite a process, which is why im posting here for help :p

BTW anyone fill me in on how to get engine compression checked? I'm sure I could figure it out but I trust the guys here more than I do the rest of the internet...

Why? It sounds like your engine is fine. You would know if it was blown...why spend the money for nothing?

Like I said, you need to relax. Just enjoy driving the car. FDs are just cars, man, they're not fragile china or something...

I've daily driven mine for the last two years with almost 23k miles. I've had a few odd things break like oil metering pump, alternator, and the fuel pressure regulator, but other than it's just been general maintenance for a 9 year old car (bushings are expensive though!).

Just keep on maintenance, check under the hood for obvious problems on a regular basis (NOT every day ), and drive it hard.

Yeah thats probably the best advice you can give me right now :\ So basically if there are any problems with the engine compression itself I'll DEFINITELY be able to tell?

Also - Is it true that engines sometimes don't break into their full power for quite some time?

If you lose compression- you'll see your motor rocking back and forth like crazy (look at the UIM).
Your car sounds healthy.

that's not too far off the time that professional drivers put down in car magazines. I think a few recorded sub 5 second times but most were around 5.2.

tires sticky and warm? good road? just thoughts ...

the difference between a 5.2 and a 5.4 is minimal - i bet if you do another 20 or 30 runs, you'll be hitting that number.

And get your friend out of the car - he's just dead weight

Major part of your perceived low time is starting at 3000 RPM. I think most use higher RPM to start at. Clutch abuse, yes, but they're racers ;-).

i was just about to ask this. whats the highest rpm you should clutch drop from. ive been reading that with evo8s, wrxs and sti's that when people do it from 7k it gives them really good 0-60 and 1/4times but puts tremendous strain on the drivetrain because it is all wheel drive. what about the 7 would doing a 6 or 7k clutch drop put lots of strain on the drivetrain or is it a litte better than the evo8s and wrxs
