Starter issue??

Starter kicks in and works fine when the car has been sitting for 30 min or so. If you have been running the car and turn it off and try to start it again, the starter does not engage.

Now You CAN jump across the starter with a screwdriver when the ignition key will not do nothing. ALso there is NO voltage to the starter when you turn the key to start when the car has been running (warmed up).

What is there between teh battery and teh starter that could cause this? Relay? What one? Neutral Safety Switch?

Has anyone had this come up before?

so you have no volatge with the key on at the starter? are you getting voltage at the s terminal (small single spade) when you try and crank it? is it an automatic or 5sp? there is a facory buliten about hot start problems with the autos. seem to remember it being a grounding/starter harness issue.

It's an auto. Had been working fine till yesterday. No voltage to the starter when I'm turning the key on to start it when it is hot and the starter isn't kicking on. It isn't a solonoid problem, the wire going to the starter has no juice when the car is hot. Wierdest thing I've ever seen.

That is the problem. If I turn the key on and jump across the starter with a screwdriver the engine will fire right up. It will start with the key when it's cold.

So maybe a bad ground wire on the starter?

that is what the bulliten is about. it is a new harness beacuse the starter signal wire gets hot and the resistance increases so it wont crank.

last numbers of the vin- p0200001- p0210498

is that you?

Ok thanks mad 7. I found the bulletin now and printing it off. It says something about increasing the voltage to the starter as well. I'll take it to the dealership and see what they say. I may be able to just replace the wire with a larger one and shorten it.
