Started project need some help.

So I started my fd project today and I've got basicly every part that can come off... off. Except in the engine bay. So here's the story with questions... first it's a 93 auto and I'm gonna put a j-spec 13b street ported 5 speed into it... I'm also going with a haltec standalone... I'm keeping abs and power steering, and MAYBE ac, I dunno yet since this will just be a weekend driver. Anyhow I'm redoing EVERYTHING, fuel lines brake lines etc. Now since I'm going with a haltec do I need to leave my stock computer in to control interior functions or can everything be run using the haltec (I've never been much of a body harness guy so I dunno where it all gets power from, doesn't seem like the ecu would control anything though) next... should I just rip EVERYTHING off the car including engine harness then install the haltec then motor then assosiated parts (like brake booster etc.) I'm trying to keep the least amount of stuff as possible and EVERYTHING is pretty much being replaced. No emissions needed either. Can the haltec basicly replace the engine harness or does it get spliced in? I'd rather do away with the old harness if I can.
Next up I'm creating a few lists right now and I need a few suggestions... first I'd like to know if anyone has a good suggestion of getting a good baffle into the gas tank to keep low gas from sloshing... I was gonna put a fuel cell in but I'm kinda worried about cutting into the trunk and comprimising the chassis regity... also I was planning on running a rear diffuser and I need the gas tank to bolt to, cause I don't wanna cut up the diffuser (making it useless). Also whats a good fuel pump that will handle a 600hp 20b (in the future I'm gonna swap in a 20b).
Anyhow I gotta research some stuff but thanks for any help!

damn man, that's a hard to read post....

keep it simple and ask questions on separate lines or something..
sounds like you're trying to do too much at once..

why don't you plan things first, set a goal rather than throw all these ideas out confusing us.
1) motor swap, get it done then move onto
2) how to hook up a haltech
3) sounds like you need suspension mods like coilovers, strut bars, sway bars, etc

Do yourself a favor and divide your tasks, get them done one at a time otherwise you'll end up with a broken looking garage ornament

basically setups are divided into 3 main fields:
-engine mods
-suspension mods
-exterior/cosmetic mods

Also, the 20b project isn't as easy as it seems, everyone talks about it when they first get an FD only to find out that it's an expensive project, a lot of work required, and quite a lot of modifications, it's not a drop in project.

lol yea that was a bit confusing i guess first i was wondering what would be the first logical step? right now there is no moter in it i kinda thought an empty engine bay would be the easiest start. next would be to start at the gas tank and redo the fuel system then suspension and breaks. then get the part of the engine harness i need to run the bare minimum things i want. after that install the tranny and motor. next body. does that seem logical?

* If you are going with a Haltech, you don't need the stock ECU. IIRC, the only thing the Haltech doesn't do is the OMP so you'll have to premix.

* As for the wiring, you can gut the stock harness to only contain what you require for your setup.

* Fuel slosh, it was said that the latter fuel tanks had better baffling. They are a direct replacement.

* As far as fuel pump to support tons of power, IMO, just get what you need to support what you are going to run. If/when you decide to go 20B or something else, upgrade your fuel system to support it at that time.

* Since you have everything out of the car, you might think about some other things. I would look at coating the transmission tunnel with some heat resistance coating/covering. The tranny transmits a lot of heat into the cabin if you do any road courses.

* A fresh coat of paint in the engine bay before you start installing stuff again would be a good idea. You don't need to get elaborate and have a body shop do it. Simple matching spray paint with some clearcoat will do the trick.

Good luck...

thanks that was a big help!
I'm kinda worried about premixing but if I have to in order to ditch the stock ecu for the haltec I guess I'll go for it. I seriously want the bare minimum in the engine bay minus power steering and abs.
I'm making a few lists right now and trying to figure out a good order to accomplish each. My biggest worry is figuring out the best order. I'd like to be able to do one thing then the next etc. without having to go back and redo something.
originally I was planning on a 20b but I'm too impatient. I'm hoping to get this car up and running in about 9 months and a 20b would only slow me down. Thats why I plan on upgrading in a few years when I've gotten bored of this setup.

So if someone could help me figure out a good order to work on things that would be a HUGE help.
I'm thinking first finish gutting the engine bay... then paint it. Next replace only the things I need like brake booster, power steering etc. and harness. Then do something with the fuel tank (fuel cell seems like a good idea, I'm just a bad welder though, and the rear diffuser will have to be modified) next run fuel lines.
once thats done I'll redo the brakes and brake lines. Then suspension and interior. Once thats finished I'll put in the motor then the haltec. then oil coolers and v mount. then body.

Does that sound like a good order... or should the motor come first so I have something to hook everything into and so I can run my lines while I put in the rest (like oil lines, fuel lines etc.)

Oh and I do plan on racing a bit, and maybe some drag, but mostly just a weekend car.
