Nice! Oh how I'd love to go single. I didn't realize the 500r was such a big turbo. *wow* Looking forward to hearing about your progress.

Please forgive my newbieness, but on the second to last pic, it looks like you've created a whole new rats nest for yourself. What are the wires with the copper things on them? For the injectors, no? And the cooper things are?

Negative! It's a GT35R T4 hot side, and is claimed to see 15 psi at 3500 rpms

Thanks,
Iamrobya theose are resistors for the injectors 1600secondary & 1000primary.

Massive its not. Most of my friends run supras with big GT4788s you can almost fit this thing inside one of theirs. It should spool pretty well I went with a 1.06 hotside for a little on top

Yea 7s are far and few between here in vegas hopefully when its done we can meet up

Thats HOTT *** vegas for sure. Iam having a SMIC custom made right now we will have to see how it works out its rated for 650 to 700 with some ducting hopefully itwill be ok.I have a Koyo rad also.

I read most of that thread before, looks like a nice turbo, but I have yet to be convinced large singles are not laggy...on the other hand, there are not many 500R equipped cars out there yet

Most people missuse the word "lag" when refering to turbo spool. I remember Sean explained it but forgot the explenation and link. The small compressor snail (.85?)will allow boost to "begin" at around 2850rpm and the large compressor snail (i have this one 1.06) will start around 3k maybe 3200rpms. The 1.15 will be more of a delay before boost begins. The ball bearing singles are insane quick from boost start to full boost.

Well, this turbo has a 35R hotside, and the spool of that turbo is well established. I guess I'll find out soon enough if it's laggy or not

I've only driven one single-turbo car, and it was Gene Felbers' Stock reman/T3 35R w/ a 1.06 hotside, and let me tell you, spool aint the problem. It wasn't quite as good as my streetport/99 RZ twins, but frankly, nothing is gonna be THAT good. It was about the same as a stockport/stock twin car, and made significantly more power... it's sneaky though, because there's no violent transition. If anything, I thought it fell off a bit up top, but I don't know if that's turbo or ports.

Yeah, many years ago (2002?) I drove Ihor's car with the same turbo setup, but it had a mild streetport on the motor.

From what I remember, my impressions were similar to yours. Nice smooth powerband, started a little later than stock twins (3300ish) but went to 8000 fairly strong. Back then I had the old school BNR 3s running 16 psi, and (with Ihor running 15 psi) when we would make pulls against each other I could hang even with him until 4th gear (100ish mph) at which point he'd start to pull.

I wish I'd done a couple side-by-side pulls against Fritz in the thing... I'd like to see how much it was worth in terms of actual acceleration. I see alot of single T dynos that have more HP than mine, but the torque is almost the same.

Looks like a good start to your project. I am also very interested in hearing your impression with the 500r. i have yet to hear anything bad.... All the good reports made me changemy mind from the 35R to the 500R. Keep us updated!!

People are so quick to hate on the forum it is amazing.

My dream turbo is the 500r so I am interested in the results also. Doesn't wastegate size affect also how the turbo holds it's boost over the range and boost/rpm?

Don't see why people are hating. I dont see why its considered "laggy getting full boost at 3500-4000rpm when the stock motor is capeable of revving upwards of 8200 rpm. thats almost 5000rpm of full boost. Now thats a powerband thats going to be putting a hurting on a lot of things.

The 500r dyno at 14 psi is the last one listed, all the way at the bottom. The pull starts at 4k rpms, but it seems to start higher than any of the 'laggy' T-78 dynos I've compared it to.

are you sure? have you seen this yourself or is that what he told you? also, in what gear and at what rpm does he roll into the throttle? that is great boost response for that turbo.

That is a very nice graph it gives. Up and over, powers up fast and holds.
