Start and die

This doesn't happen everytime I start the car, but it's still a cause for concern. Sometimes when I start the car, it revs up to about 1500rpm, the rpm drops, and the car dies. Why does that happen? how can I fix it?

maybe test your idle control valve.(on the firewall side of the UIM by the throttle body. white connector i believe) sounds like the AWS(warm up idle)system works but it doesn't catch idle on the way down. Does it idle if you keep it running after the warm-up? What vacc. do you see? Any smoke, out the tailpipe?

It only happens before the warm up. Usually there's white smoke in the morning till the car's warmed up. I think that's normal though.

Very same thing happens to me! Only on cold startups. I think alittle white smoke puffs out. Does your car pop alot? Like tiny back fires?
But once inawhile when im just crusing it just stalls when im coming to a stop. Rpm jump from 900 to about 200. Anything like that happen to you?

Lawyer - check your clutch switch. Is your AC on when this happens?...or a high electrical load?

I have the same problem...I need to give it a bit of gas for 2 secs to keep it from dying. I think the automatic warm-up revs it too high and the idle doesn't catch before it drops it back down. I'm not sure how to fix it though.

How do you determine that you're running rich?
