Stalls at idle with a/c on :(

I searched for "stalls with ac on" and didn't come up with much. The car stalls at idle with the a/c ON. Like if I am at a stop light. I'd have to check again but i'm pretty sure it happens whether or not the clutch is in or not. If the a/c is off the car is fine along with when the a/c is on and I am driving. Recently had the a/c system "rebuilt". Suggestions?

Thanks,

Andrew

Idle without load is 800-900
Not sure of idle with load, i'll check
The car dies pretty much right away. No sputtering.

I have a FSM and it looks like it maybe the Solenoid Valve(ISC) or maybe even the Air Control Valve.

How do I check the switch functions (a/c, blower, headlights, etc.) without the SST?

Thanks,

Andrew

had a similar problem and it turned out to be the clutch switch.

Hmmm...sounds like something to look into.

Also, anyone with similar problems have a CEL?

Thanks,

Andrew

I'm looking at buying an 93 RX7 that has a fluctuating idle. With the AC on, the idle jumps up from 800 to 1200 rpm and back down every 2 to 3 seconds.

He switched the transmission from an auto to a manual and hasn't hooked up the clutch switch. As you suggested scratch, I think that the clutch switch is the problem but my Dad isn't fully convinced.
Besides the clutch switch, is there anything else anyone can think of that could cause the engine to die or have trouble idling with the AC on?

Mods on the one I'm looking at: DP, poly motor mounts, dual DIY MBC, intake

Thanks

seems like there is a vacuum leak causing the idle to fluctuate like that. Do a propane test to see if you can find the problem. And make sure all the vacuum hoses are plugged in and not ruptured.

So now I've discovered it depends how I come to a stop when I have the AC on. If I come to a quick stop it sputters a bit and cuts off. If I approach a stop slower then the car stays on. If i come to a complete stop with the ac off, then turn the ac on, the car stays on...

stalling with ac

VERY COMMON.
I rebuilt my wife's 94 MBM FD AT due to this problem. The torque convertor loads the engine down more than the MT so it happens sooner than on the MT models......which my MT is doing now. To me it appears to be the engine is suffering lower compression from wear. Anyhow, I rebuilt her FD, had the injectors flow cleaned, new seals, etc, and 60K miles later it is still ok.
Now, my 94 is suffering what you describe. I'll have to rebuild it as well.
I also had a 92 rx7 that did the very same thing. Rebuilt that one as well.
Unless you have an intake leak, or some other problem, it is probably low compression (but the engine still runs very well). I used to shift to neutral at every stop light to keep from stalling----what a pita.

Yikes...hopefully it won't be that. I will check the compression anyways.

Thanks,

Andrew
