Stage 1 FD Upgrade

Hi guys,

With winter comming I am about to make my first FD staged purchase. I have had the FD now for about 2 months, although i was waiting for it for 5 years.

Well little background I am 20 and I have wanted an FD since I was 15. Basically i have a 93 Touring w/ 99,000kms, mods include Fiske wheels 18*8,18*10 rears with Pirelli PZero Tires.

So for my first upgrade I was thinking of going for a Metal AST ( 150$), Apexi PFC w/Commander(1020$), Apexi Twin Intakes (162$), Apexi N1 or N1 Dual (380,480$), Downpipe(100$) and a Greddy Type RS BOV (172$).

Basically my only questions were are these the right first upgrades, are my prices good and should I go for the N1 standard or the N1 Dual... My future Power goal is 425 Hp and thats the max I am going to want to have.

Many thanks for all the help,

Alex

Save your money on the BOV. The stock BOV is fine.

You should add $300-400 for tuning for the PFC.

Or you could also buy a wideband($300-500) and a datalogit($300) so that you could self-tune the car for each new mod.

If the engine hasn't been rebuilt yet, start saving up.......

Start with the reliability mods, AST, DP, rad, rad hoses, etc, then work on power mods.
And yeah, don't worry about a BOV, the stock one is fine, unless you really want it. Most people on the board consider aftermarket BOV's as ricey. But to each their own.

As for the exhaust, if you're going to get a PFC anyway, go ahead with a midpipe if you don't mind the noise, or a high flow cat and get the PFC later. Like after you're FIRST rebuild ;-).

Oh yeah, remember the FAQ is your friend:

You could find better prices for most of that stuff in the F/S section of the forum.

i wouldnt get the midpipe first and then get the PFC i would get the pfc before the midpipe...the ecu would have a hard time handeling the added flow....like everyone said if u hook up ur intake and vent ur crv and bov its loud enough...but yeah dp and exhaust and intake and rad and rad hoses is a def must, also ast..and if ur car doesnt have the viton vaccum line hoses in it yet replacing the old brittle ones is a good idea too

What he said. Boost guage and aftermarket temp guage are a must.

You gonna want a high flow cat in Canada, trust me it's not worth the headache. At least not in Ontario!

once you replace the stock airbox your stock bov will make enough noise. not that crazy screeching but enough to put a smile on your face.

Wow cool thanks for all the rapid responses.

So I am gonna drop the BOV from my list and check out the for sale section a little more often. My car has 65,000 miles so although I have already saved to send it to rotary resurection I dont want to rebuild tahts why I wanted to free up the intake, exhaust and control boost as well as fuel.

Maybe I am still missing some notions.

if your a good mechanic and your up for the challenge, u should look into going non-sequential. do a search on the boards. it took me about a weekend to get my car to non-seq and im loving it

I would consider the HKS downpipe although it a bit more expensive - $250 or so. It is a direct replacement and fits back over the studs. If you don't break them while taking them off.
