Question SRMotorSports

I just recently bought a powerfc and fc commander from SR Motorsports and they tuned it. But I've heard some funny things were they don't do a very good job on tunning and some people have actually blown there motors cause of it. Dose anyone have anything posative to say about SR motorsports? and there tunning? I'm scared to put it in my FD....the last thing I need is a blown motor.

What are your mods? They tune it with a base map which is never real safe. The best is to dyno tune it with a wideband.

Post in the West Forum, there are several tuners in Bay Area. One of them is Dave. he tuned on street/dyno.

you can NOT tune by mail. you have to tune by putting it on a dyno or a wideband. at the very least you have to tune by reading exhaust gas temps.

their tuning like that is nothing more than snake oil.

i had three sets of maps like that from xs engineering and kdr rotary.....all three caused detonation.

use them as a starting point if you want when you do the tuning.

DO NOT boost the car with those **** maps in there...you need to check them on the dyno...slowly...you need to get your afr.s and see how the maps are. that is the only way.

and you need to set your knock sensetivity, since that's the only thing that will allert you that it's starting to detonate... unfortunately it'll just blink the check engine light instead of cutting ignition ??

I got strongly cautioned not to drive my car when I got my SR tuned PFC. I ended up getting in on a Steve Kan tuning session, which worked out well.

I'm not sure if there are any competent tuners in your area of cali, but ask some locals, you should be able to find one.

SR Motorsports is run by a Bozo who works on his own drag car as his primary function.

1) He operates out of his house/garage (his house
is in BFE....waaaayyyyy out in the country)

2) I had him install bigger injectors & my PFC - horrible
job (he left the PFS purple computer still attached
when I picked my car up!) He does not know how
to work on street cars worth shiate.

3) He does NOT have a dyno.

4) He is unorganized. I had a scheduled appt to drop
off my CYM to get the above work done & when I
arrived, he looked at me like I was from Pluto...he
had "forgotten" about the appt, completely!

That outfit is a circus. Suggest you drive to LA & see the boys at XS. They know RX-7s pretty well & are good tuners (have some dynos, work on modified Supras, RX-7s, Skylines, etc)

i had the opposite experience with SR. i bought my pfc, gave my mods (ported engine, dp, hiflo cat, rb catback) and they shipped out my pfc. i had KDR install it and immediately dyno & tune it. it was seriously rich and only made 220rwhp on SR's tuning, which is fine for a stock car but... when dave finished it pulled like 270rwhp i think.

but yeah, artguy is dead on. you can't tune the ecu if you don't have the car and thats a fact. don't let that service determine where you buy your pfc.

Uh, yeah, and prepare to wait years to get a spot @ XS I've heard of people taking their FD to XS with she stock map, and got it back with 12 degrees of advance in the map so who knows, you need someone you trust and then have them do it right. The troubble is that nobody will give you a guarantee that it won't blow your motor.. so you have to try and weed out the shady shops from the good ones... (good luck)

Cool

I second Artguy, I waisted $150 by mail tuning.
Timing was way off bad and the fuel being dumped was worse than the EXXON VALDEZ spill.
I swear, that I could collect fuel at the exhaust tip.
Save yourself $$$$$$ and bite the bullet and dyno tune it the right way.

that was funny....and would explain a few things.

the mail order tuning is a complete and total scam. beware.

whenever i have ordered parts from them they arrive immediately. unlike another outfit around here.

Basicly just make sure you have it tuned, before doing any boosting. Ported engine, single turbo, it sounds like you have spent a lot of cash. Do it right, have it tuned right.
I'm not sure where you could have your car tuned on a Dyno here in the bay. Maybe someone on her could make a suggestion? Mine was tuned with a wideband, and I am happy.

my SR PFC was pig rich, not worth the money. I'll mention my turbo fiasco again, he's a schister and I'll still do like I said and kick him in the nuts if I every see him for bending me over for 2300 on a set of "upgraded twins"....bastard.

What about rx7.com ?
I live in Greece and no one can really tune the APexi unit here, so I need something pretuned !!!

Who would you suggest for the tuning of the Apexi Unit - I also need to be able to have upgrades, as I cannot buy all the stuff I want at once

Sorry, I do not mean to highjack your thread

Thanks

In all honestly, if you can't tune it or have someone else tune it, just find a rechipped ECU like the M2's/Pettit or others. It's better to be safe than sorry.

You can always download and use maps for the PFC that are close to your mods, but then you are no better off than using one of the rechipped ECU's unless you are using larger injectors. Check the PFC forum for information about finding PFC maps:

get the datalogit and a wideband...you can tune the car yourself if you have those. it is easy to do fuel...very very easy....just get a conservative timing map from someone here and do the fuel...that will put you closer than any of the guess maps.

you can NOT tune by mail or guess...especially with that modlist...too much there...you need to get your afr's. if there is a tuner who can tune a haltech there and a rotary...or a motec and a rotary...or anything and a rotary..then they can tune with the pfc. its the same **** just in a different setup.
