squeaky hood

I thought I could take it but it's finally driving me insane! I've read somewhere that wrapping the hooks on the hood with rubber tape will reduce the hood squeak because it supposedly rubs against a stud... on my car it doesn't really seem like the hooks would rub on anything. Am I missing something here? Also, the "official" fix is supposed to be to put washers under the rubber stoppers to raise them up a bit to make more contact with the hood... how thick of a washer do I need and just how exactly do I remove them? Can I just pull them off or is there like a clip or something underneath? (that would be a pain in the ***...)

You shouldn't ust pull them off. You can can try either lowering the hood latch so the hood shuts closer to the latches, raise the hood stops, or try both. I did a little of both. Raising the stoppers alone left a small gap with the hood, and lowering the latch left the hood sitting a little too low. SO I raised the stopers a hair and lowered the latch a hair. I didn't use any tapes or washers.

If your talking about the squeaking under the hood, a quick fix is just rubbing oil on the 4 studs the hood sits on and the hood latch. Lasts for a while

Man I know the feeling

I waited months thinking it was something other than the hood. I oiled the stoppers, and then raised the stoppers with washers and no change. Then one day I was beginning to go insane, b/c that hood is a perfect amplifier for the sound. I even started to think it was coming from inside the car for a while, then I greased the latch and it was gone what a glorious day. Just the metal part coming down from the hood.

Well I have this problem so I thought I'd revive this old thread. My question is, how do you remove the rubber stoppers in the front to put on the washers? Also, how do you lower the latch? TIA.

I agree 110% with pistonsuck. My squeaky hood was driving me nuts...and it sounded like it was coming from somewhere near the fender, not anywhere near the latch. In desparation, I smeared a little grease on the latch, thinking that at least it could not hurt. That was the best day of my FD ownership. Better than the day I got my power FC. Better than the day I cured my nagging boost problem. Even better than the day I lost my virginity If you have a squeaky hood, please, Please, PLEASE try greasing your latch. To this day I still think back on that day and smile.

Yeeeeep, like Pistonsuck and Red Rotary Rocket said, just put a little grease on the hood latch and all you're problems will be solved. Add's about 2 hp too.
