Is the Skyline simply not as respected as it's hype? Is it just cuz it's rare? Cuz I rarely see it mentioned in such respects... Is it cuz they're not brought to the US, so they're just not considered? I was under the distinct impression it was one of the all time best handling cars, w/ an *incredible* suspension setup??

Thats great that Mazda has 2 cars out of 10 for the best sports cars of the 90's. But seriously why was the boxster even on that list, slow + over priced + the owners think they are the fastest car on earth = worthless.

My guesses about the questions raised:
Why Miata is #1: because it revived a whole segment of cars that many (old-timers ) consider to be the very definition of sports cars.
Why no Skyline: Not a sports car.
Why no Supra or 3000GT: Cool cars, but not really exciting enough to overcome their heft and make it into the "great sports cars" list.
Why the 300ZX if not the Supra and 3000GT: It was the first of the Japanese supercars to show up, and therefore it made the cut on the excitement versus heft meter.
Why Boxster: It is a cool car, and has the classic sports car configuration of being a small convertible (see: Miata).
Of course, I could be wrong.

I think the definition of a sports car differs from person to person. A Maranello is a superb car but it is also 3700 - 3800 lbs.
The Skyline GTR34 may have a back seat (so does a Porche 911) but it is very fast and agile and often raced.

The Miata is in the Guiness book of world records for being the best selling sports car in the world, 100,000 units in the first 17 months in the US alone. The RX8 took only 18 months to sell 100,000. The RX7 is a legend, the ultimate street machine. The Supra is a fat ugly powerful car, and I am tired of everybody sucking the Skyline's dick, it's not even in the US. If you want a Skyline, buy a G35, pay too much money, and run mid 14s. The Boxter is a piece of ****, but I guess based on sales, and the Miata-likeness it made it. The 300ZX belongs in the Supra/3000GT category but it is very popular and better looking than the other 2, also related to the classic Datsun. I am very proud to have 2 Mazdas in the top 10, and to be the only 1 of the 4 Jap supercars of the 90's to have made it. Anyone that drives a good running FD knows that it is an incredilbe experience, every day consists of getting compliments on the car and smoking everybody. My 2 cents....

I don't know if the top list was only for imports or something but seriously how could they possibly not include the C5 vette? Was the Z06 around for 99? Also it is seriously rediculous that the supra didn't make either list...you've got to give credt where its due, and the supra is one bad *** sports car. Can ayone give a half way decent arguement that its not better than a 300zx?
