Nice :)

Honored to be among those cars! Almost every car on that list is a world class sports car and I think the RX-7 is deserving of its spot

...and glad the Supra didnt make it :D

RX7 RAGE 11-13-04 04:45 PM

That's good we're in the top ten. :)

but they'll reply back saying we have unreliable POS cars. :)

moehler 11-13-04 04:52 PM

I'm pretty shocked that the miata made #1.

TurboLumpy 11-13-04 05:12 PM

miata and boxter 1 & 2??? wtf?

oneflytrini 11-13-04 05:34 PM

The miata and the boxter are fun to drive, but they cant compare to an FD. Those editors were probablly smoking something. The Mclaren or Ferrari should be #1. Glad the 7 made it on the list, apparently not only the supra didnt make it, but wheres the Skyline?

FDNewbie 11-13-04 05:36 PM

I'm actually surprised and curious why the Supra didn't make it??

cuz, most likely based on sales too !

FDNewbie 11-13-04 09:03 PM

Is the Skyline simply not as respected as it's hype? Is it just cuz it's rare? Cuz I rarely see it mentioned in such respects... Is it cuz they're not brought to the US, so they're just not considered? I was under the distinct impression it was one of the all time best handling cars, w/ an *incredible* suspension setup??

the_glass_man 11-13-04 09:27 PM

No Supra. :) Or 3000 GT, don't really see why the Z is rated so high though.

EKTwin93 11-13-04 09:39 PM

Thats great that Mazda has 2 cars out of 10 for the best sports cars of the 90's. But seriously why was the boxster even on that list, slow + over priced + the owners think they are the fastest car on earth = worthless.

maxcooper 11-13-04 10:00 PM

My guesses about the questions raised:

Why Miata is #1: because it revived a whole segment of cars that many (old-timers :)) consider to be the very definition of sports cars.

Why no Skyline: Not a sports car.

Why no Supra or 3000GT: Cool cars, but not really exciting enough to overcome their heft and make it into the "great sports cars" list.

Why the 300ZX if not the Supra and 3000GT: It was the first of the Japanese supercars to show up, and therefore it made the cut on the excitement versus heft meter.

Why Boxster: It is a cool car, and has the classic sports car configuration of being a small convertible (see: Miata).

Of course, I could be wrong. :D

The Supra is a Japanese Camaro, not a sportscar.
...I've owned 2 :)

Yea that's what I figured. I remember back in what...1990, when the Miata first debuted, how it and Mazda were hailed for the return of the sports car... It made a REAL big fuss, even a ripple in our society, if you will, which in turn led virtually all the major manufacturers to turn their attention back to making sports cars. Besides, I gotta say, I was hands-down impressed @ the miata's handling when I first drove it at Mazda Rev-it-up. The car's too small for me, but it sure is zippy :)

Why no Skyline: Not a sports car.
Hmm...you prob have a point there lol. Is that cuz it has a full back seat, and is available as a 4 door sedan? Is it a sport compact?

martel317 11-13-04 10:42 PM

can't hate on the miata

I was supposed to get a 1993 r1.....but i couldn't come up with the loan in time.....he only wanted 14500 for it with 35,000 origonal miles on it and it was super clean.....that shit broke my heart...but it's all good cuz i kept my miata and am now finishing it...it's in texas right now at racing mazda gettin redone from top to bottom.....should be pushing 400+ at the wheels!.....some pics of the car are here www.plainmiata.com .....lemme know what ya think

salamander 11-13-04 11:26 PM

I think the definition of a sports car differs from person to person. A Maranello is a superb car but it is also 3700 - 3800 lbs.
The Skyline GTR34 may have a back seat (so does a Porche 911) but it is very fast and agile and often raced.

1revn3rdgen 11-14-04 06:15 AM

I would have thought that a supra would have made it to the list, but im glad that the rx-7 did make the list.

Outkast 11-14-04 08:05 AM

The Miata is in the Guiness book of world records for being the best selling sports car in the world, 100,000 units in the first 17 months in the US alone. The RX8 took only 18 months to sell 100,000. The RX7 is a legend, the ultimate street machine. The Supra is a fat ugly powerful car, and I am tired of everybody sucking the Skyline's dick, it's not even in the US. If you want a Skyline, buy a G35, pay too much money, and run mid 14s. The Boxter is a piece of shit, but I guess based on sales, and the Miata-likeness it made it. The 300ZX belongs in the Supra/3000GT category but it is very popular and better looking than the other 2, also related to the classic Datsun. I am very proud to have 2 Mazdas in the top 10, and to be the only 1 of the 4 Jap supercars of the 90's to have made it. Anyone that drives a good running FD knows that it is an incredilbe experience, every day consists of getting compliments on the car and smoking everybody. My 2 cents....

widebody2 11-14-04 10:46 AM

I don't know if the top list was only for imports or something but seriously how could they possibly not include the C5 vette? Was the Z06 around for 99? Also it is seriously rediculous that the supra didn't make either list...you've got to give credt where its due, and the supra is one bad ass sports car. Can ayone give a half way decent arguement that its not better than a 300zx?
