Speedo/Tach problem

I'll be damned if I can figure this out. All the gauges are working with the exception of the tach and speedo needles. The other gauges, all the illumination, and even the odo/trip are lit up. Neither the tach or speedo needles work and the odo/trip doesn't count, it's just lit. Can anyone think of a reason why all the other gauges would work and the tach/speedo would be dead? I've double-checked the signal wires and all is good there. Is it possible the tach/speedo have a seperate pwr or grnd than the other gauges or the illumination?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

take it apart and check the cold solders, btw, the speedo gets its signal right off the tach so check the tach first, you might have to resolder every cold solder joint they did cuz one loose connection will do what your mentioning. I have done it before and its not really that hard, just take the 2 screws holding the little vent thingy which blows on your crotch and then remove the 2 other little screws holding the gauge pod in and then yank the gauge pod straight out, there are like 8 eletrical connectors after that you have to remove and then just pull it out with out damageing the face. good luck dude

Hmmm...I had this exact same problem just after I got my car. This happened about a day before my fuse to that blew. All I can say is that I replaced the fuse and has been fine since...dunno if that was the cause, but something to check.

I've had the cluster off about a dozen times and the solder joints "look" okay at first glance. I'll have to take a better look.

Railgun69, exactly which fuse was it that you replaced?

The fuse to the dash gauges. I don't remember exactly which one it was (meaning which position).

Were all your other gauges and all the illumination working even when the fuse was blown?

After the fuse actually went, I lost all the gauges, but still had the lights (which are seperate from the actual gauge fuse).

I don't have my electrical diagram in front of me. Is the fuse in the panel over by the dead pedal?

Oh yeah...by the dead pedal. On top of that, I think there's a diagram on the cover.

I just stuck my head down there and none of the fuses are marked anything gauge-related. Which one did you have go out on you?
