Spedo not working 100%

Hey All,
I have a bit of a strange situation, speedometer wont read when going slow, and then picks up once I exceed 60km/h and it keeps reading. I thought that this may be the instrument cluster as they are known to get leaky capacitors but this was not the case (not sure if it would stop working overall in case of leaky capacitors)
I am assuming that this may be from the sensor at the gearbox side, has anyone faced such issue ? How come it works at higher speeds but not at low speeds.

FDAUTO would be referring the speedo circuit board.

Doubt it's the sensor at the gearbox - it's gear driven and fixed to the driven shaft. If it's working at certain speeds, hard to imagine any scenario where it wouldn't be registering at others

x2 I just got my cluster back (speedo, tach and odometer would cut out intermittently). Works great now.

Check that all your grounds are grounded. Missing a ground can affect the cluster.

Plus one for sending clusters to Mike. I even send him working ones, to make sure before putting them in or selling them on.

. He will spy any potential problems and refurbish.

I have a similar problem whereas the speedo would drop to zero above 80mph. When reading data off ECU I can see the vehicle speed sensor gearbox is reading properly.

Electronic parts can absolutely work intermittently with leaky capacitors, since capacitors are effected by temperature.

Sometimes just heating the part up can make it work again. I think electrical issues are more common in winter for this reason.

In my experience, you're better off finding out the exactly which capacitor is likely to go bad (e.g. C4 in the case of the F110 TWS unit), and only fixing that capacitor. That way, you're less likely to mess anything up.

This is cheaper and faster than sending it in for repairs.

michael Gagne. He was super responsive, my cluster arrived on Wednesday, he had it fixed within a day, sent me pictures of the burned out capacitor and a test video of it working. I couldn’t have asked for a better repair experience

Man, my cluster is also on the blink, and I even contacted Michael. I'm just so afraid of the CD case quality plastic cluster hood turning to dust when I touch it, ya know?

Yeah. Better line up a replacement cluster hood before trying to remove the cluster. Also the four harness connectors at the back of the cluster are very tough to remove.

When removing the cluster, cluster face and hood as a unit, remember to remove the steering wheel and pull the unit directly toward you as you sit in the drivers seat. This releases the clips at the back of the hood.

Lifting the hood up from horizontal in any way will cause it to split/shatter/self destruct/explode.

Also a simple tip for the four connectors. they do not have a single release on them, there is one on both sides of the plug you have to squeeze and they come out really easy.
