Been a newby to RX's, Ive just had a look at the spark plugs with the intension of ordering some new ones, from under the car the bottom back plug is a NGK BUR 7EQ with the other 3 NGK BUR 9EQ is there any reason for this, Ive just been on a plug site and putting the No's in a search it comes up with the above but with a P on the end, i.e. BUR 7EQP is there any difference?

Did you try searching on this site? The p stands for platinum. YOu want to buy 2 BUR 7EQP for the bottom, and 2 BUR9EQP for the top holes. Some people recommend (if your car is heavily modded) that you run all 4 BUR9EQP

the difference betwen the two is that one is a leading plug and one is a trailing plug the leading plug ignites the fuel the trailing burn the nox created during a rich burn. just leave them as they are the plugs are designed for a specific burn temp. if you replace them just replace them with the same plugs.
there is a high performance type of plug for the cars you can use . sorry don't know the number.

Thy are a pain to get at, as i mentioned the bottom rear plug is a BUR 7EQ the top rear is a 9EQ the bottom front a 9EQ and the top front a?EQ a bit tight under the car so i took a guess at the top front, So just to confirm the BUR7EQ or 9EQ is the same plug with the P on the end?

Leyland go with NGK, BUR9EQP all around.

The 7/9 combination is what came stock and your car is pretty modded up. Again, P stands for platinum. BUR9eqp all around. Sparkpulgs.com has decent prices.

Hi Steve,

You may have Japanese origin plugs. the EQP types are very similar to EQ but have a platinum tipped electrode. BUR7EQ and BUR7EQP are not available in the UK, we import BUR7EQP from the USA for those owners who particularly want original spec plugs. NGK UK recommend BUR9EQP for all chambers - this removes the risk of fitting the different types in the wrong chambers which could be disastrous.

If you have heavy modifications you may wish to consider racing plugs NGK R6725-105 (heat range 10.5 on NGK's scale) or Denso Iridium racing IRE01-31 (heat range 10 on NGK's scale).

Some one f*cked up when they changed your plugs, that's why you have only 1 7. go with all four NGK BUR9EQP. No offense, but I think anything more complicated will get you more confused.

^^ I had a discussion with the guys about BUR9EQP's. There's also some great links in there for good prices on the plugs.

I would go all the way around with BUR9EQP's like I did. I'm not sure if it messes with the tuning, but since my car was that way originally then I [think I] messed it up unknowingly with 7's + 9's it's been running much smoother with 9's. I have to use the platinum plugs because for some reason my car eats them very quickly (see that thread for more info on that too).

My sentiments exactly... if figuring out which spark plugs to use is this big of an ordeal, I can't wait to see what happens when you actually have a legitimate problem.

P.S. just typing in "BUR9EQP" in the search box brought up 103 threads, including this one: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=BUR9EQP which was created and commented on just 2 days ago... a little research goes a long way.

Put the BUR9EQP's in and everything seemed ok, but i have noticed it seems to go flat on boost? 5k+ and ime not getting that push, also after a run if i blip the throttle i will "somtimes" got a bit of blue smoke, just wondering if it could be plug related? re: usma 2006 reply i was under the understanding that using the wrong grade plugs can/will cause a LEGITIMATE problem? just a bit puzled with the spec on the car that somone would leave a 7 in by mistake? saying that would there be any reason for a 7 to be in? ( i did notice when the plugs came out they was all the right colour with maybe the exception or the one BUR7EQ which was more black then the others)
