First we need to know the level of power mods of your fd, as well as what boost you are running.

I have run 'race' plugs (with the small electrode) in 10, 10.5 or 11 heat range for years. I like both the NGK and Greddy ones, they are not cheap at around $35 each. It isn't necessary to run them in the trailing holes, I typically only use them for my two leading plugs and use 'regular' 9s in the trailing holes.

Again, my car is pretty modified. If you are close to stock with close to stock boost levels running four 9s is sufficient.

my car has street port, t62-1 single turbo, PFS race intercooler, and power FC. i bought this car from Ted alvedia... ( may be you know him) he told me the car should put around 400+ whp at high boost

low boost at 10 and high boost at 17 psi

let me know what you think?

thanks

for me, mine have stock system but remapped ECU.. running at 0.9 BAR high, 0.6 BAR low.
i'm currently using HKS 10.5, didn't see any significant difference than running stock NGK 8 and 9. maybe i didn't dyno for it...

maybe you should try using Denso IRE-30 these are 10's....

At boost levels above about 1 bar (14.5 psi) the race plugs make a difference. 10s will work fine for you as will the 10.5s and 11s. The higher heat range (colder plug) will just foul out more quickly. Note that these plugs will need to be removed and cleaned after maybe 2k miles or so.

They are expensive and require the Racing Beat socket to install.
Go to http://www.sparkplugs.com/ to see the cost.

Chuck, which plugs are you referring to? The NGK/Greddy race plugs use a regular spark plug socket......

Witt, run NGK 9's for a daily driver. Cheapest way to go and they will give you the best performance for your app. Race plugs will foul out way quicker on a daily driver.

How's the car running ?? Post some Pics man !! I miss my bitch Also, what ever happened to that Kan tuning session you guys were putting together ?

Yo Rich, thanks for looking out for Witt and my old Bitch. I do miss my ride, but am loving my Z06. However, nothing but OLD ***, BORING *** people in the corvette clubs in this area.

So, I continue to hang with my Rotary Bro.'s here in the N.O. even though I'm now pimpin pistons and no longer rotors :)

That is bad advice.

For a stock FD, that is fine.

For a modded single turbo FD like we're talking about, at the least you want to run 9s in each hole. The colder (numerically higher) plug will lead to less chance of cutout on boost and lessens the chance of detonation.

Try to run all 9s (all stock trailing plugs) first. If you get breakup of any kind, time to move up to 10s.

You need a special socket to install them, but NGK makes cheap iridium plugs that work great -- the BR10EIX. They are only $8/each as compared to the $35/each 10.5s that don't need a special socket.

If you like pistons so much, do a LS conversion on a FD, at least come part way back home!

Ignition cutout. Too much fuel, not a strong enough spark.

I've found on my own FD that if I want run 17+ psi, I need 'race' plugs (heat range 10 or higher). It seems this can vary from car to car as Ihor's old FD made well over 400 rwhp with a totally stock ignition system.
