sorry... Long Term Storage

Hello,

Sorry, I went around reading quite abit of the stuff that's been posted, but I'm still a bit confused...

First my scenario. Due to some financial difficulties... my 93 RX7 will have to go into storage. There is no way in hell that I am going to sell her... and paying about $4000 a year in insurance... to drive her once every 2-3 weeks... just doesn't make sense. So I took the insurance and registration off the car.. and she will have to go into storage until 1) I can garage her near me or 2) I can afford to pay that much insurance for the amt of driving.

Anyways... actually, before I go into questioning.. anyone here know if there is any way (in NY) you can get some breaks if you drive the car less than 1 or 2k miles a year? THink emissions should be done based on how much you drive hehe.

The car will be in a garage (not heated) but indoors... and I am not too worried about getting flat spots.

Most of the stuff I've found on the forums were about winter storage. I am not sure how long this will be... so my questions.

1) If I can have someone start the car, move it back and forth along the driveway once every 2 weeks or so... is that fine?

or

2) if it shouldn't be touched... I read some of the threads about draining coolant, replacing the oil (its new already), putting something in the gas tank etc... ANy thorough instructions on this?

Thanks

Ok, here is a suggestion for you. If your going to put it in storage, put the registration as non-operational for $10 and get small insurance to cover theft and damage on it while it's in storage, cause if it get's broken into or something happens your **** outta luck! That's just my .02 though.

You could try some gas stabilizer to keep the petrol from going bad and/or crystilizing in the fuel lines. I'd recommend that it be started every few weeks to try and prevent any gasket hardening you can. Good luck.

So even if I wind up not really being able to drive it (ie registered and insured) - its not a bad idea to turn it on, warm it up for like 30 mins, move back and forth along the driveway etc... is that enuf? I guess I just gotta change the oil (which I can do in my backyard) and get some gas to put in there from time to time....

is that better than storing it away?

thanks.

SOrry I'm not very mechanical...

yeah it's a good idea, but get a car cover and make sure no one really knows it's there. Because you really don't want extra crap that people could do, if you know what I mean. People are cruel.
