SOP compression

could someone help me with ways to tell if my compression is ok
i have a boost gauge
i try and treat my rex with the best of care but i wake up fearing for its life every morning
it has no problems i can see except it needs a new exhaust
it farts at idle
as far as i know the vacuum is stable at 500mmhg
but it seems....louder
not an exhaust note. like air whoosh i dont know
i dont have any track times or dyno sheets
im sending it to the dealer for some exterior stuff this weekend. not to touch anything on the engine except maybe for a compression test if i am so compelled
any help is GREATLY appreciated

A compression Check at the dealership is going to cost you about $140 - $170 2hr labor and you can do it yourself for around $15 if you are competant. Go to http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/ a see how its done. Very simple. After you read it and still have questions then come back. (PS I am confused at what you mean by exhaust farts??? do you mean sputtering? Your plugs may be fouled. just remove them and inspect them (heavy suite is fouled) Remember that the plugs are different for the Leading and Trailing. Dont mix them up.

i read the compression test post and upon some debate i have decided that what i need is an official printed test from the dealership if for no other reason than to be reasonably sure. thx

You have nothing, what are you posting for? You have a car that is having "exhaust farts?" You want us to diagnose a compression test?? If this car of yours is making you "fear" everyday of your life then I would say you bought the wrong car man. Go to the dealership, spend the $150 for a compression test, its at least worth the peace of mind....sometimes.
