Something Strange

My RPM and TAC stopped working the other day. What can cause that? Could it be a bad electrical connecting... near the battery? Any ideas?

Also, when I get on it the check engine light comes on and stay ones.

Need some help...

Is RPM and Tac the same gauge ? ? ? You'll need to see what kind of codes your throwing. My guess is the check engine light is related to the tac/rpm not working as mine will come on when my spedometer quits on me, but goes out as soon as the speedometer starts working. The code does stay in the system and doesn't rest till I clear it. Jack

I am not sure about the CEL, Jack is probably right on that one, if its just the tach going out or bouncing, you very well could have bad solder joints on the circut board of the tach motor. If it is that simple, just resolder all joints and replace the two caps. and I bet it fixes it, worked for me. If it is something different then pull the codes. Probably should do that anyway. good luck.

I'd pull the codes first before doing anything else.

It might be your sensors for the gauges, before I bought my car I test drove it and the speedo didn't work and the check engine light was on, and the speedo was causing that.

my bad

I meant my Spedo and Tac stopped working at the same time. The check engine light goes on when I push it and then stays on until I shut down.

Does that change the prognosis?

Like I said in my previous post, you will throw a CEL if the speedo is not working, code thrown will be speed sensor failure. CEL light should go out as soon as the speedo starts working but code will remain in ECU untill cleared. may be a fuse if both quit.

That happened on my last fd.It was a broken wire.I think it was where the turbo timer was wired in.It cost me 360.00 at the dealer to have that fixed.
