SO how many types R there?
Okay Well after countless hours of searching on this forum 3rd gen specific, other rx7 sites, faq's and spec's I'm still stumped. Although there was one nice link which I no longer can find which covered the basics regarding the types and the 2 seater and 4 seater version, but didn't help much other than that. So my question is how in the hell do you tell one type from the next. Now this may sound like a newbie question, but so far I have come up with.
Base
Type R
Type R1
Type R2
Type touring
and
Spirit R
And I have heard that the type r's come factory with crossdrilled rotors and red brakes.
And I have heard some models came stock with red interior. So can anyone explain how many types there and what is the benefit from one over the other.

They are not all 'Type [name].'
Off-hand, I can recall these:
Base
R1
R2
Touring
PEP
PEG
Type R
Type R Bathurst
Type X
Type RZ
Type RB
Type RS
Type S
SP
Spirt R (Type A, B, & C)
There were likely a few I've missed that were Japan only.

WOW I can't believe the touring models out number the base models. In most other vehicle catagories it is vice versa. So it sounds like more than 50% of all Rx7's are touring. And 1995 models are the rarest.
But still that leaves the question of how they are different from one another? To be honest I thought the factory produced or would have produced only two types, base like an RS, and perhaps one that would exceed the base RZ. I never realized there were so many different kinds. Having said that there must have been better performance parts added by the factory to seperate one type from another.
Does anyone know or have another link with more info.?
The reason I want the information so bad is I am trying to figure out what type I have, but with that ratio I wouldn't doubt that it is a touring, also I think it would be nice to differentiate one type from another, perhaps at a meet or whenever I came across another FD.

OK, You have a 93, so it's either a base, a touring, or an R1.
1) If you have a sunroof, you have a touring.
2) If you have a 2nd oil cooler (pass side) you have an R1.
3) If you have neither 1 nor 2, you have a base.
I have heard of exceptions to these general rules and parts can be added/removed, but this is pretty unusual.
