it's the xs-power intercooler and you're getting ripped off if you buy it from that guy.

here's the 2.5 inlet one, also.

OH also, I would say buyer beware. The company has a sticky about them in the single turbo section. Multiple better business bureau problems.

Looks like an M2 only crappier...I wouldn't trust anyone who advertises it as a "side mount" either. These aren't DSMs, kthx.

I'd suggest getting an intercooler that doesn't suck, such as the ASP or Greddy. If you're on a budget, get the Greddy m-spec. $530 for a Greddy front mount kit.

Ever think there's a reason why most intercoolers for the FD cost $1100-2000 and that one costs $100? it's ****. If you do decide to go with an XS intercooler, don't blame it on the "crappy rotary" when you start having motor problems.

Also, I see that these are your first two posts. Welcome to the club. How long have you owned your FD and what mods do you have to support/warrant an intercooler upgrade?

I actually have done some testing with my custom fiberglass duct and this intercooler, assuming its the XS power one. I have had efficiencies max of 86%, during runs seeing high 70's to low 80's. I have verified the GM open air sensors and have also validated that the readings are not offset from one to the other by swapping sensors. I also have leak checked mine without issue. I think as long as you are using a duct this is one of the better deals when it comes to IC's, except for those that believe that they need to pay more for performance parts.

Great thank you very much!!!!

Yes I am new to this forum. This is my second FD. I had a VR FD back in 99-00 but had to sell because it was too much for me to maintain = $$$$ ( I was only 22)... Now that I'm older I just wanted one since I have an unfinished business with my favorite car....

I just got one yesterday. The second previous owners of the car was Spooledup7 then was sold to ForcefedSTI then now me https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=680695

I just wanted to make this car as reliable as possible. I don't plan on tracking the car nor racing it... I already get my racing fix from racing shifterkarts...

Thank you very much for your help!!!

I believe the one your referring to in your links is the XS Power IC. Other people including me have been using this IC without issues. Do a search on it. The biggest issue with it I would say is the IC tubing and the lack of duct. Both issues can be worked out though by making your own IC tubing and buying a pettit ic duct, or even make your own.

Awesome deal, sounds like you got a really nice car there.

Before I add any more of my .02, I think I'll just wait for the more knowledgable guys to step in. I'm sure after the holiday weekend Mahjik or Goodfella or FDNewbie will have some more useful input.

Looks good how it is though. Enjoy your new toy!

I'm not saying it's good or bad. I don't have one. I'm just saying that if you're gonna buy it off ebay you might as well go to the main source of the IC.

From the picture, you'd definately need to get a good duct and piping. I think that goes without saying.

Here's a link to a comparison of ICs: This was taken from fd3.net and was posted in '98

http://www.fd3s.net/intercoolers.html

For all you fellow members looking for intercoolers out there, here are some Specs on the core sizes of each:

Intercooler ----Thickness------ Width------- Height -------- Volume
__________________________________________________ ______________________________
Stock IC ------- 2.5 ------ 11.5--------- 4.5--------- 129.375---
ASP medium --- 3.5 -------- 12.55 ----------- 11.55---------- 507--------
ASP race ------ 3.5 ---------- 12.55 ------- 17 -------- 746.7--------
Grdy VMount ------4.0 ---------- 12.5------------- 7.5 ---------- 375----------
Greddy FMIC ------4.0 --------- 16.0 ------------ 10.5 ---------- 672-------
PFS ------3.5 ---------- 10.4 --------- 10.5 --------- 382.2------
Pettit CC2 ---3.5 ------ 10.5 ----------- 10.0 -------- 367.5--------

So why does it suck? Because it doesn't cost alot of money? I didn't see anything in your post that is constructive or that has any reasoning behind it and is backed with any type of factual evidence.

Come on people, bars and plates are not rocket science. It a good cheap alternative over stock for ppl not wanting to spend an arm and a leg. Either buy a duct from the guy on the forum that sells them or buy a Coolcharge III duct from Pettit for $200. I'm not a big fan of the FMIC on a street car because the majority of them do not provide proper ducting for air flow to the radiator. I think my favorite is the old style Greddy, followed closely by the Apexi.

I just picked up another FD and I'm very tempted to see how this compares. Maybe a Stock vs. my Pettit Coolcharge III vs. the XS Power.

The XS Power Intercooler is the best/Cheapest SMIC that you can buy, there isn't any problem in using this intercooler as long as you get/make a duct for it.

These have been used in Hundreds of FD's, I had one for over a year with know problems at all.

Not trying to make anyone mad but, the people that say it this Intercooler is crap or anything like that most likely have a high price SMIC and are kinda pissed that this Inercooler is working so well for so many people.

actually, it's a high priced front mount that I got a killer deal on.

Sorry if it offends your sensabilities, but you have to admit(or not??), the skurge of ghetto *** modding is what has hurt these cars worse than anything else in their 14 years of existance.

ok i have this kit....and believe it or not i only payed $110 shipped about a year ago. DEF a good upgrade over stock with new piping and duct like someone already said.

The AST bracket on there isnt going to hold either. Mine broke off....i had it rewelded and it broke again

welding aluminum is the hardest to do so ive learned

but IMO if you dont have enough money for one of the name brands then this is perfect

I just bought a pettit cool charge III duct for my xs power. Have to wait to get everything back together to give my opinion on it but it appeared to have a very good fit and covered the entire IC.

I bought my xs power to upgrade over stock and get a little better IC than the 14 year old stock IC.

^ Spandy's was leak tested and blown out to check for metal shavings as well. It passed both tests fine, no leaks and no shavings. I honestly think the "downsides" to this IC are made up by the parts snobs because they feel that they might've wasted their money. I couldn't imagine paying $1k+ for a Greddy SMIC when you could get something that's actually larger for 1/10th the price.
