I noticed that a few people on the forum are using a smaller battery with their front mount intercooler setups rather than relocating to the interior or trunk of their car. I wanted to know what kind of battery people use in the stock location instead of relocating the stock sized battery somewhere else. I've seen it referred to as an "odyssey" battery, but I haven't been able to locate anything related to that brand or application. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Also, does the smaller battery setup require modification of the factory battery tray?

I got the Hawker for $69.95. Supposedly the Odessey PC680 is the same battery resold under their label. At least that's what some thread I read from a writeup on some board (lost the link).

It's like 13 lbs. I ordered mine from Portable Power Systems, Inc. at www.GotBatteries.com.

I actually relocated mine to the passenger compartment though. Fits great in there being so small.

It appears to me that you got that Hawker Genesis for $69.95, a lead-acid battery, not the Odyssey which is a dry-cell battery, completely different technology.

The Odyssey is much smaller than the stock battery, so it will not fit appropriately in the stock tray. But, that's one of the big advantages of going with the Odyssey, to free-up room where the stock battery is located. Now's the time to consider moving the battery to the inside of the vehicle.

It is easy to take some sheet metal and make a new battery tray, no big deal.

SS battery trays for Medium sized ICs
It uses a 51R battery that is about 10lbs lighter and 2" narrower than stock. It is a direct bolt-in, no cutting or mods required other than a new battery.

I designed this tray to prevent the stock battery from rubbing on M2 med or PFS sized ICs. I have rear seats in my FD so I couldn't put a battery in the rear bin and the 51R battery (common to some Hondas) has more capacity than the smaller dry cell or gel cell batteries. If you don't have an aftermarket IC this tray will still help your car loose 10lbs and leave more room for air to exit the radiator.

This is the last batch I'm selling, about 50 of them have already been sold, never a complaint about the fit, the trays lines up with the stock mounting points perfectly. It uses the stock J-bolts along with a custom cross piece for tie downs.

I use the PC925. A little bigger and more powerful than the 680... no drain issues or anything. Not quite small enough to leave under the hood w/ an M2 large IC, but does allow extra flow from the rad. Would also fit nicely in a bin without cutting.

I've got the PC925 also.. from batteryweb.com. Turned on its side, it's not much larger than the 680... and I happen to have a spare battery tray for it (before I went front mount). If that'd help anyone out, you can have it.

Oh, and I'd recommend paying the extra $10 and getting the steel jacket on the battery.. it raises the max operating temperature rating a bit.

Just relocate the battery to the rear passanger compartment. That would be easier, and it's better for weight distribution.

has anybody tried a miata battery from the dalership,i actually have a relocation kit that i do and as part of that kit the miata battery is included, this is one of the smallest batteries on the market and most dealers keep them in stock

How much is that Miata battery? If it's lead-acid though, some folks might not want it. If i opt to relo the battery to the passenger compartment, I'm DEFINITELY not getting anything other than dry cell just for my own safety.
