While I was taking the Y pipe off, a small piece of gasket material broke off and fell into the turbocharger (compressor at the rear, near the firewall). I couldn't find it. It just disappeared. It is about the size of a finger nail.
Is it going to screw up my turbocharger?
I'm really worried.
Thanks.

I would find it if I were you. Without removing it you may get lucky and the turbo will pass it through with no problem, but if it ever finds its way past the intercooler the motor may not like it at all. I would spend the day pulling things apart rather than risk spending a couple weeks and a couple grand replacing the motor and/or turbos.
You might be able to get a vaccuum cleaner to suck it out. Clean out the vaccuum first so you know if you got it. Or you could try blowing it out with compressed air if you have that option. Be careful of the turbos if you try that though.

Well, if you have the Y-pipe removed down to the flange at the turbo housing on the secondary turbo, then you certainly have the intake elbow off the back side of the compressor housing. That would need to come off first to expose the flange nuts. If so, you should be able to spin the compressor wheel slowly and work the piece of gasket into an opening where you can retrieve it.
What kind of gasket? If it's that paper gasket **** under the ACV I'd be tempted to not worry about it. It'll burn up if it gets stuck anywhere. If it's the black rubber coated metal like everywhere else, definitely fish it out.

That really sucks.
This is exactly why I use golf ***** to cover all of those openings.
But if it fell in as you were removing the fitting, then I guess there was nothing you could do to prevent it.
Shop Vac: I wonder how you would know if it got sucked out...suppose you could empty the catch pail first.
Maybe try blowing it out.
Then, when you do get it out, you will have a nagging doubt that there's still something in there.

It should've come to rest at the bottom of the Compressor Housing. If so, you'll be able to work it out with a flat-head screwdriver.
The only other place it could've gone, would be the area between the Compressor Blade and the Comp. Housing. If so, you'll have to take the rear intake inlet pipe off and pull the piece out with small needle nose pliers.

trying blowing air backwards through the system with a leaf blower. With the y-pipe off, blow air through the intake pipe for the secondary turbo and any pieces should fly out the turbo.
yeah definetely get it out.
BUUT if you really can't(i think you can though)
how big of a piece is it?
honestly, yes, you need to keep your turbo and such safe..
but meh.. a tiny spec of rubber will get incinerated by the engine/turbo..
it aint gonna do ****...
now if it's a big piece of rubber.. or maybe paper gasket.. i'd be real serious
about getting it out.
EDIT: size of a fingernail is kinda large.. get it out.
