the coolant lines on the Tb are about 1/2 - 5/8" somewhere in there. the upper hose is easy to spot. just look at the diagram and its literally RIGHT there

 

^^they're 5/16th.

We delete the coolant through the TB on all single turbo FDs at the shop..... we run a new oem hose from the rear iron straight forward to the back of the wp housing.

 

yeah i was wondering why the TB got its own coolant line.. it can't get too too hot, can it?

 

no, it's for the aws (accelerated warm-up system) system, it increases idle when cold and as the car warms up it gradually drops the idle back down to normal.

 

That's kind of correct, but it's not called the AWS

AWS is what revs the car up to 3000 rpm on cold start (and can be defeated by starting car in gear). The AWS solenoid is located underneath the middle of the UIM, and the pipe feeds over to the factory elbow..... that's the big ugly hose on backside of the elbow. S8 cars don't have this, and the elbow doesnt have the huge nipple on it. When I bought an S8 longblock, I gave the elbow to my brother so his FD didn't have an ugly cap plugging the hole once he deleted his AWS.

What we're talking about here is the cold start/thermal wax rod. As the coolant warms up, it gradually melts the wax, slowly lowering the idle. Problem is, it's been almost twenty years and now they seem to be failing pretty commonly. Another reason we've been deleting them at the shop on most cars .

 

I carry a few different "education" Rx-7 related pictures in my phone, so in the odd chance I get it running, it then breaks down, and I forget everything I've learned so far, I have a reference to go off of....

Okay i definitely haven't posted back in a while.
The leak is definitely coming from there, the hose is all wet and even more wet after I drove it for a couple mins.
I'm really not motivated to work on it since it's parked now for probably around 4 months.
Here's my questions though. How can I tell if it's the hose or the clamp? I've checked the hose for crack and I can't see any on the top but I can't see beneath it.

I'm probably going to end up changing the whole hose though. This is going to seem like a really stupid question but i've never done this before.. I would need to drain the coolant right?

 

no... but it will limit the mess it creates.
