ACCEL DFI Pro 7 CD Ignition, 2 step ?

Anybody using one of these? See details here http://go.mrgasket.com/newproducts/flyers/74468G.pdf and http://www.jegs.com/i/DFI/310/75609/...ductId=1287718

I am thinking about getting one. Has some new technology and nice features, compared to my Jacobs fc1000 (same company made both I think?). I mostly like what looks like a built in 2 step rev limiter which I want to add for drag racing. I can't do that with the FC1000 so I need a new ignition that can work with a 2 step, other options are the MSD 6AL with the addition of a 2 step. The accel looks nice cause I think its all built in with a rotary switch for the 2 step instead of using pills with others.

Let me know your thoughts please, or if these is a better option for 2 step launch control. thanks.

Notice how it says that it's for "single coil" applications? That means it was really meant for oldschool distributors. On a distributor you have one coil for each cylinder (or rotor). On a wasted spark system, which is mostly on late 80s to early 2000s cars, you have one coilpack for every 2 cylinders/rotors. On the modern individual coil/coil-on-plug system, you have one coilpack for each cylinder/rotor.

-- The 1st gen uses a distributor, so there's only one coil.

-- The 2nd and 3rd gen Rx-7 has a wasted spark system for the leading, and then individual coils for the trailing. That means you would need 3 of these units to work a 2 step on an Rx-7 ignition system. You don't want to have two-step on just the leading. That won't work.

-- The Rx-8 uses four individual coils like other modern cars

I'm not sure what the most common solution is for an externally controlled 2-step on a rotary. Many people running a 2 step have it integrated into a Haltech or other standalone.

Thanks for the info. ya I did read that but I thought it would work like my jacobs fc1000 works with my one fc leading coil for the two leading plugs. and I read on here somewhere that you have to wire up a relay that turns off the trailing coil during the 2 step rev limiter, from the clutch switch or you could use the horn switch. it seems like not many people do this so there is not alot of info available. also read you can do it with a msd 6al i think, with the msd 2 step. i found a crane ignition made for drag racing that has the built in 2 step dual stage rev limiter, but it says for distributors.

I decided to buy the Crane HI-6DSR with the built in 2 step. Looks like a nice one, crane are good too. I also could have got a MSD ignition with built in 2 step but I don't like reading about all the msd's that fail, crane has a good reputation and other rx7's owners have used crane ignitions for the leading coil and I had one in my truck that always worked good. I got a good deal on the crane unit for $262 at http://crane.carshopinc.com/product_...6285/6000-6424 , more info on these at http://www.cranecams.com/396-397.pdf and http://www.jegs.com/i/Crane-Cams/271...ductId=1354628

I will also wire up a relay and probably use the horn switch to activate the two step and turn off the trailing coils during 2 step stage rev limiter. More info on this at these threads

After I get this all installed, I will be selling my Jacobs FC1000 which has always worked great.

friend of mine had an MSD Dis-4 (which has 2-step) fail on him in less than 500 miles. It was a piece of crap.
