Slanted exhuast increase hp?
Why do some FD have there exhuast slanted? Meaning the tip is not facing straight out, it is about 30 degrees off center. Does it actually do anything or is it just for looks.
i think hks just wants to show off the carbon wrapped canister. . . haha. i like mine. its kinda cool. . . although very, very loud. i guess i can blame that on my gutted cat though. hha.

well the idea, in most cases that you see it anyways, is to decrease the angle of that last bend in the piping. Making it more of a straight shot out the back. So I suppose you may see an increase in exhaust velocity with an angled muffler like that.
I think it looks kinda cool too.

So if you where going to do this it would require one to reweld the mounts and piping to have it done right. Or is it bought that way.

OK, some people sorta have it right. There's a reason why some of these style exhausts originally carried the "N1" moniker ... because the slanted style was born of the N-1 racing circuit series. It's a turbo car design, with the idea of fewer bends and striaghter pipe for the least backpressure, as some people said. You didn't originally find them commonly available for cars in the US because we only have a few factory turbo cars here. In Japan, where nearly every Nissan and Toyota comes turbo, the market is obviously much larger. You'll find many manufacturers offer N1 style exhausts for NA cars now, like Hondas and newer sporty imports like the Celica in smaller diameter piping, which are obviously that way to maintain backpressure for the NA motor, but to achieve the tYtE slanted look for such morons. There's probably a dozen different N1 style exhausts in the US market now, and probably a dozen more in Japan. I could make a list of them in the US, but then I have to mention my exhaust and since no one ever mentions it, I don't want it to catch on.

Wink Wink huh?
Instead saying the name, what so different about yours than the common FD exhuast. Why do you believe it is special? Then I will decide if i need to beg for the name.

Everyone but blackscorpio is wrong about why the FD has a slanted exhaust with some aftermarket kits. Maybe there was some thought in mazda's original design, but the fact remains, the stock muffler is also slanted. It seems to effectively clear the gas tank and suspension. If you notice, the stock exhaust has two bent tips to counteract the offset angle. :-)
