Ok...so the shop that got me my previous turbos is dicking me around, and one of the turbos is bad after 2k miles, when they told me the turbos they got me had only five thousand miles on them...

so im debating gettomg those rebuilt, so im asking roughly how much should that cost me to get a good job done on that, versus doing a single conversion and what parts would you guys recommend, please remember i am on kind of a budget so nothing extreme here, i just would like a basic system and what all the parts are that you guys would recommend....thank you for taking the time to help!!

Well, if you are on a budget, you'll probably be forced to get another rebuild set. If you can spend a little more, I would get a brand new (or lightly used) set of 99-spec turbos. In the end, that will be far cheaper than going single (when including all the other expenses involved.

I know the single guys will disagree, but there are a lot of compromises involved with going single. You should only be looking to go single if you really want 400 rwhp or more. Otherwise, keep with the twins.

 

I agree with Rynberg.... don't forget that a singel will require a whole new ecu set-up. That in itself can cost a good deal of $$ for a properly tuned one.

*If you don't trust your shop then take it somewhere else.

 

ok...then how much am i looking at for a rebuild or of a 99-spec turbo...oh and yah i really dont trust my shop now...they were cool when they were taking my money but now they are dicks

 

rebuilds, the lowest ive seen was 800 but I think there are a few lower ones out there. Thats just for a basic rebuild. You can get BNR's new twins thaat are capeable of 400+ RWHP ( havent seen it yet though) for 2800 or so. Thats teh same as 99 spec brand new turbos.

 

hey hows it going, as for my opinion, go single, easier to work on, less heat, more power, less vacuum hoses, cooler. trust me and the others, you will be happier with the single.

Similar situation here. I have just stopped by a couple of dealers and have the quotes for the Dealer ship prices. Very expensive for turbo replacement new. Also threw in engine and clutch replacement. I went to two different Mazda dealers and here is what they gave me,

Turbo part#N3C1-13-700A CHARGER, TU SPORD $4633.34/$4118.45

Engine Part# J008-99-008r-52 REMAN, ENG $3096/3200 -$1000 if have core.

Clutch part# n315-16-490-mv VPM,CLUTCH $302.63

 

Why the hell are people still going to the local dealer for parts????

Call up Malloy Mazda or Mazdaformance (just down the road from you in TX), you will get much better pricing. You can get brand new 99-spec twins from www.rx7store.net for $3k. You can also get new or used 99-spec twins from Jesse Lau (www.4jspec.com).

yah looks like i cant afford the single conv. right now that i really want to do, probably going to get my current turbos just rebuilt for the time being, get them mapped and ported at the same time...and then i dont know what else they probably messed up when trying to do the non-sequential setup
