shoving the y-pipe together

I am currently trying to install the efini y-pipe and I am stuck right now trying to shove the 2nd part of the y-pipe together. I busted one o-ring already and read around that I should have used some lube. I heard you could use vasoline as one, anyone else have any suggestion?

You can use oil or grease, but it shouldn't be so difficult to install that you end up tearing the o-ring. It should be an easy slip-fit that requires little pressure to put together.

i ended up taking the studs out of the turbo and replacing them with bolts, makes it much easier, just make sure you dont ground a bolt out like i did an have to end up taking the whole thing out.

Just go and get you a new o-ring and put some vaseline on that. You should be fine.

Be sure that you remove everything that is in the way. Do not try to shove it in at an angle. It should go in easily.

I agree. I always remove the rear turbo inlet pipe (easy with a ratcheting box wrench) and lift off/on the y-pipe as one piece. That o-ring is easy to pinch and cut, ask how I know.

There was recently a thread where someone found a Viton O-ring from McMaster-Carr that fit the Y-pipe perfectly and was DIRT cheap. The stock O-ring is mighty pricey .

BTW, I think it was the Y-pipe O-ring - I think there was also mention of the throttle body O-ring.
