Or sell it and use the funds to build a track monster. Or go deeper with mods, port / single turbo, etc will turn it into a different beast altogether.

Years ago I was in the same situation. I had a 93 Supra 6spd, had fun with it for a while but over time drove it less and less till eventually it sat in my garage collecting dust. I kept it several years longer than I should have due to the same reasons you mentioned - emotional attachment mostly. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to own a car that never gets driven, what's the point? I'm not wealthy enough to collect cars like souvenirs, my money could be put to better use, even given the fact that the car was actually appreciating in value, there are still costs that seem somewhat wasteful and add up over years. Do I regret selling it? Hell yes, especially seeing prices today, but it was the right call at the time. In that time I found other vehicles and things outside of the car world to be interested in and enjoy. Now I'm back and looking to get into an RX7. Sometimes stepping away from a hobby you get bored of is a good thing, you can always come back to it. Also it really depends on your financial situation, if you can afford to have a garage queen without sacrificing anything else, then why not? keep it.

Whatever you do good luck man!
I was in the same situation, but know that I would regret selling the RX-7. You can always get another, but I would always wonder about the history of the car.

My solution was to buy a 4 post lift and keep the car in the garage while I figure what to do / get it back on the road. A project car, but I love how it looks, when I do drive the car it puts a HUGE smile on my face and my wife thinks it awesome.

20 years ago I sold my MKIV Supra, as soon as it left the driveway I got this sinking feeling in my stomach and I instantly regretted it. Thankfully I kept
in touch with the owner and ultimately bought it back from him a few years later. Don't make the same mistake as me.

Best of luck with your decision!
This is really sage advice. I had a 97 Supra TT that I bought in 1998 and sold in 2005 with not close to enough thought about it beforehand. Have regretted this decision ever since.

Keeping a garage queen is fine, but you HAVE to get it out every few months at minimum. Keep the gas tank full, maybe even put in fuel stabilizer. Disconnect the battery or put it on a trickle charger.

When cars sit bad things happen. Mice make nests, gas tanks rust out, brakes rust and lock up, coolant turns acidic and starts eating the engine....lots of bad things. Simply keeping the tank topped up and taking a good drive to get things up to temp and get everything moving makes a HUGE difference.

Gas tank rust is one of the top enemies at this point on FD's. Modern fuel with 10% Ethanol isn't helping either. I've seen cars stored with a quarter tank and the inside of the tank was SOLID rust and the fuel pump assembly was totally rusted and junk.

Anyhow, small problems like this are a slippery slope. Car sits and you lose interest, then you try and get it going and see it now has all new problems. Then you do something like pull the fuel tank and get stuck on the project, the car sits even longer and gets worse, eventually ending up as a parts car or worst case going to the scrap yard.

The numbers on FD's are dwindling. We need to keep every single one on the road. The good thing is if you have an FD that you have lost interest in NOW is a great time to sell.

Thank you all for the sound advice. I would say the a solid 50% of the fun of ownership is having a wealth of knowledge on these forums. You guys put a lot of other car forums to shame. I would love to turn it into a track monster, but with work and other activities take over my time, the car would still sit a lot in between track days. I would like it to go to a good home, not a collectors storage unit. I am still on the fence about keeping it, but you guys have invigorated me to go out and drive it a little more. Thank you again.

Take it to work every second day for a couple weeks, dont be afraid to modify it and make it yours, If you are keeping it stock for value then might aswell sell it as its just there for money. Make it fun, give it some power go single make it look slick thats what they are built for

What part of town you at? I dont think ive seen you or your car around, but then again you say you barely drive it.

Ive been in that situation quite a few times and i have always opted to keep it lol, now i have 3 of them and a T2 but still find myself wanting to just get rid of all of them and maybe get something else.

I have fought with the zero motivation so many times lol... But i came to the conclusion that MY main reason as to why i dont want to do anything to them is because i dont have that group of friends or even that 1 friend that was almost here everyday hanging around and even if we didnt work on our fds, we just talked about what to do to them or with them while staring at them for hrs lol.

I do have few rx7 friends still, but for some reason we are all doing different things and we have been "working" on our cars for at least 5yrs :/ .... One day we went to pavs , then the next day we all put them down to change a couple things and that was it lol.

Maybe this is what happend to you or what is making you feel this way, the fact that you dont have another rx7 person to hang around and keep that spark firing.

^This is very true. I did a post on this recently -

This hobby is a lot more fun if there's a social dynamic. It's also a hell of a motivator.

I live in the Glendale area (67th and the 101). I see you're located in the Glendale area too. I was working on my car with a local friend, but he moved to Japan. He had a fun zeal for the FD that definitely rubbed off on me. Plus he was a mechanic for the military, and knew the FD inside and out. On a side note, I did take it out a bit over the weekend, and it did put a smile on my face, and the itch to nonstop upgrade the car has returned!!!

I've owned my FD since 2005 and have had a few years where I thought about selling but one drive for an hour or so and I say to myself I will never sell this car. If you aren't saying that after a drive then maybe you should sell it. Everything about a vintage red Rx7 is special. It's the perfect sports car. That's why I will never sell my FD.

Are you? You're not "that" far from me , I'm down on 51st Ave and Peoria area lol.
there's more guys on the west side too that normally disappear during summer 🤣 but right now they start coming out !!!

Not sure if you've heard of Cesar, but that's who 90% of AZ goes to for any kind of build , good friend of mine as well.

Do you have Facebook? If you do, look up azrx7 owners... Not a busy group but a lot of us not ally lurk around there and there's some pretty active guys posting to go to meets such as cars and coffee.

For some reason i think i talked to your friend once or twice idk of it was around 2019 or last year... I was going to buy some stuff and he mentioned he was in the military and was gonna move to Japan so had to get rid of everything, but could have just been some other dude lol.

Anyways... I'm sure you really don't want to sell, you just need someone to kick it with to fire them sparks again.

Look at what ~$40k could add to your life. See what it would do for you saved for retirement, or maybe you want to spend $40k getting a private pilots license?

This choice is about the money. In the future you will always be able to buy a replacement FD, as long as you still have the money to do so.

What can $40k do for you?

Just to add to this, all the owners saying "FDs are so overpriced! They aren't worth that"! Should go sell their car today.
