Lightbulb Looking to buy an RX-7

Hey what's up. T his is my first post and hopefully the beginning of many. But my question is, a dealer near me is selling an "RX-7 R1" what exactly is this and second did they really make an automatic TT in 93 or 94? I currently own a 2000 celica gts have done some mods but I really need more power. I am deciding between an RX-7 TT and a Supra TT. How many miles is too many? If you guys could help me out with all the info you could, it would be appreciated. thanks.

You may get a lot of different answers to your questions as I did in my first post here3 years ago. Read it all, toss it out and go with your gut.

Miles...Mine has 103,000 original miles and I have seen some with 150,000 original miles still running strong. Some guys have not got more than a few thousand miles out of newly rebuilt engines. I can't speak for them.

Mine has been a daily driver. It is our only car and has never left us stranded. Its got more moves than a Supra for a lot less money.

The R1 is the hard core handler. A bit too hard for some. It also features a second oil cooler, but had less options...like no sunroof.

We love our RX-7, but we want a house. Seems I may have to sell to get enough cash. I would buy another one if I ended up selling it.

As far as too many miles, you can win either way. Maybe you pay a little more up front on a low mile car and it works out.

Maybe you pay a little less on a high mile car. If it you get 200000 miles, then you really have won. If you have to rebuild then you still can come out well.

Get one!

An R1 is the more racing minded version of the RX-7. It comes with dual oil coolers anda strut tower brace and a few other things. It was available on the 93's. In 94 that car was referred to as a R2. They did come in automatics in all year models. As far as the mileage goes it all depends on the car and the owner. If you find one that was properly maintained it could last for upwards of 100,000 miles. It just depends. Personally, I test drove 6 other RX-7's over a period of 6 months before I bought my 95. Be patient and good luck. PM me if you have any more questions.
