I have the Mazdaspeed short shifter.
First rate in quality.
The **** is larger and heavier than the stock one. The stock **** will not fit on the Mazdaspeed short shifter.
The shifts will be more "notchy" perhaps "crispier". The throws are maybe 1/3 shorter. Installation is easy to do - just requires taking the center console off and a few bolts, etc
I highly recommend it.
i don't know about the other brands.

I have the B&M one, and I love it!
The quailty is top notch, its the only shifter that replaces the stock base. The throws are short and crisp. The throw is shorter then the Mazdaspeeds and some of the others, the price is also hard to beat. The stock shifter **** fits on it as well. Takes about 15-20 minutes to install.

i just went there again and it says mazdaspeed shifter...but then when you look to the side it only says
shift **** 220.95
e-brake handle 175.95
Carbon fiber and aluminum shift **** and brake handle. These are the new ones that just came out in March 02`
all this is below the mazdaspeed carbon fiber mirror.
so YES i have been to his site. and no i have not seen the short throw shifter kit. so unless i am really blind then i dont think it is there. is it listed under something else besides mazdaspeed? does anybody know how much the mazdaspeed and the c's short throw shifter reduces the stroke. i believe the b&m reduces 30% correct me if i am wrong. thanks for the fast replies

I have the mazdaspeed... The stock **** does fit, however I added the Nardi Miata ****... I found it more comfortable.
I had the c's but found it to be notchy and would not let me get into reverse when the tranny was hot.
Heard good things about the B & M...

Racer RX,
I have heard about your problem about not getting into reverse when the tranny is hot and it has ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to do with the shifter. I have heard of this back when I want in Japan. I have never heard of it happening with the FC, just the FD. My old mech there had it happen once or twice and when the engine came out he checked the whole tranny and found nothing wrong, and he has no short shifter.

thats not paint....
I wasn't big on the Mazdaspeed, I though it was too smooth almost like a stock shifter. The throw only knocked down by what 35% if that? I got in a car with the Pettit shifter and I thought that was a lot better. Kinda a notchy feel but good, it felt really racey. The Pettit also shortens the throw by 50% which is crazy, I love it!! The B&M isn't very high quality from what I have heard and I tried searching for C's but it wont search for under 3 letters.

i emailed jasona day or so ago, but he has yet to respond. hmmmmm so many choices. i want the mazdaspeed but it seems to be hard to get ahold of. . i can get the b&m for $185. is that a good price? also i noticed the b&m replaces the whole assembly"big box thing it sits on", does it really matter? the C's and mazda speed dont do that.
