I ran a cheap s/s for awhile and it was alright for a short while. Then it started to get notchy and didn't like to go into gear. I recommend spending the extra money on a B&M. It will last (much) longer, protect your tranny, and lead to a more enjoyable driving experience

was it because your tranny was going bad or when you put in a better one the gears slipped in nicely?

I had a cheapo for about a year, maybe more.

First of all, its REALLY short. 1st and 5th gear look like in the same position, it takes alot of effort to switch gears and its notchy. You also have to "break" it in when you first get it.

When i got mine, i got a tranny whine upon deceleration when using the engine to slow down the speed. (example 4000rpm in 2nd, then just letting the engine slow down the car, it will whine slightly).

Now i have a mazdaspeed short shifter. Its nice and short, doesnt whine and its easy to shift.

The tranny was fine, it was the cheap ebay shifter. In this case at least, you get what you pay for

I don't even think it's worth the effort to install one of them......do it once, do it right. How much are B&Ms going for? I've seen some lightly used ones pop up here on the forum for 80-100 bucks.

Rich is right.I ran one aswell for a while and it started gettin really hard to put it into 1st.I changed to an RE short shifter and I still have it and not a bother.RE and B&M are the best shifters to go for.I'd pay the extra for it.

I like my C's short shifter... Spend the money, it's the one part you'll always notice as you're always using it!
