quick double throttle block off plate question

In order to use the double throttle block off plate is it necessary to remove the actual butterfly valves? For the time being I just want less clutter on the outside of the UIM but it seems if I remove the actuator that the block off plate wont sit flush because of the valves and linkage that hooks to the actuator are still there.

Do i need to remove everything to use the block off plate?

If i do then I don't mind leaving the actuator with no vacuum line connected.

You say the block off plate won't fit with the linkage and then you ask if the block off plate can be made to fit anyway? Sure, grab a grinder .

If I recall correctly...
The double throttle is normally open so if you just remove the hose from it it won't ever be activated (it's disabled). It won't cause a vacuum leak either as the hose goes to the actuator and not into the manifold. Removing the double throttle plates (butterflys) may help flow slightly but isn't that big of a deal really. It is nice to remove the double throttle hoses and solenoid (PFC or resistor probably required).

well I can't say for sure because I didnt remove the double throttle actuator. I took out the bolts but left the c clip and arm attached to the linkage and just manuvered it so I could see what would be left . It looked like a plastic/nylon notch would still be left over after the actuator was completely removed but I didn't go all the way.
Just figured I'd ask since I know a lot of people have done block off plates.

Guess I'm going to leave in on for the time being.

^At idle yes, but wouldn't it tend to make more difference as rpm and boost rise?

Not sure, but IIRC, you can disable the DT, but in order to install the block-off plate, you'll have to remove the butterflies and armature. In order to do that, I would recommed removing the UIM. I had to dremel the screws out holding the plates to the shaft.

Sure, it would add some restriction at higher revs and boost. Maybe a HP or 2 loss? I haven't ever heard of anyone being able to feel the difference. I didn't. If and when someone wants to do all the throttle body/intake manifold mods then they will probably want to go ahead and remove the whole double throttle and use a block off plate. All the little things do add up.

That sounds about how I remember it. Everything should come out in pieces and then the block off plate fits on. The only grinding should be on the pieces to make getting them out easier.
