Short shifter

My stock shifter is loose as hell and I figured if I am going to fix it I might as well just install a whole new short shifter. The problem is I don't know which one I should get or where I can get it. I have been told to stay away from B&M. I was woundering if you guys can give me a little help. Thanks.

Short throw shifters are more notcher and take more effort to shift, also some will leak heat becouse they are not the same size as the stock shifte. That is just a thought before you jump into doing a short throw. RX7store.net and gothamracing all have short throw shifters for sale. I have a Mazdaspeed one and really dont like it that well. I am ready to try gothams shifter

I have a Mazdaspeed short shifter and love it. It is a little more notchey but makes shifting into 3rd a no miss situation. Got mine from Corksport.

lol well you should buy rockingrotarys if he has the mazdaspeed type and wants the gotham style.

i have the cheap ebay one. satisified 100%, but as he said, u have to fab some filler so the rubber surrounds fit without letting heat in.

Nothing, probably people dont like it because its the notchiest(spell check?), so it requires some effort to shift. But after awhile of use it gets alot easier than when its first installed..oh and it rattles a little, but most of us can live with that.

I love the Pettit short throw shifter! It's extremely short. It is also notchy, just like all of the other short throw shifters. But I have heard bad reports from B & M, although, I have never had any personal experience with their shifter...the previous owner of my car liked the Pettit way more than the B & M he had in his new car last time I talked to him. Good luck finding one you like! Here's a link to Pettit's site: http://www.pettitracing.com

The thing that you should consider on all short shifters is the "rattle". The rattle drove me nuts. Do a search on rattle, pick the shifter you like and go for it.

I had the mazdaspeed and it rattled. Put the aluminum bushing on it and it rattled less?!?! (I thought it would rattle more). Then I put the RX-8 **** on and cut 1"off the top...and the rattle is no longer present. It really seems to be a crap shoot. Good luck.

My B&M is fine. It did rattle/buzz when I first installed it. But that went away. It is notchyer but the throw is nice and short. I even cut mine down another 3/4". I like mine.

I have the MS shifter and it has never rattled since installation. Excellent product, very satisfied.

I was looking at those ebay shifters but never heard anything about them. But from what I see here it looks like they work pretty good. Not really on a budget but I just don't see a point in spending extra money if I don't have to. I just want to make sure I get the best product for the price.

From what i undestand ebay's shifter is the same as the b&m which is the same as gothams which is the same as rx7 stores....

I have the B&M, and I've never had it rattle. While it's not 'shift with one finger' light, it's not stiff enough that I have a need to look for something else. It was tight at first though, put it lightened up nicely.

Oh yea...I didn't mean to suggest that it was a bad shifter. After searching old threads and doing some research and trying out other cars with different shifters, I opted for the MS one.

It has the least chance of rattle (reportedly) compared to the other shifters. That is, fewer people complained that it rattled.

Corksport has it listed...who knows if they can get it. I have had great experience with them in the past but I saw some bad post about them in the good/bad guy section IIRC.

Mazdatrix and rx7store also carry their own knock offs of them... I heard its exactly the same?

http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm

the mazdatrix site has a nice write up on the rattle situation.

Is anyone running the knockoff that Jason sells which is supposed to be an exact match to the MS one? Someone also mentioned that Jason's is like the B&M but that can't be since the B&M has that square cnc'd base looking thingy which the RX-7 store and MS shifter do not. I had the MS one in my first CYM and absolutely, posivitely, most def. loved it and would buy it again but the cost, ouch, so if anyone has had experience with both the MS and the one that Jason sells any input would be great!

Thanks,

Joe
