Check out Ultimate Logistics, Glen is the owner, super guy. I shipped my FD with them and they had it there in no time at all, the price from Illinois to California was 1200 for me, but that was because the car did not run, the quote for a running FD was something like 800. Absolutely awesome experience, great people. http://www.carshipperusa.com/index.asp

virgina = east coast of US, vegas = west coast of US (pretty much). approx. 2500 miles inbetween, I'm assuming it's just a bit too far, and easier to ship. I have a 1st gen (some day I'll be able to afford a FD), and my back aches at the thought of a 250 mile trip, let alone 2500... and I'm only 20 years old!

Call Ultimate Auto transport! I just dropped my FD and truck, and soon to follow our FC off at the port here in Hawaii. They go to Long Beach port and then UAT picks them up and takes them to North Carolina for me. FULLY insured and the whole way on their watch. From Long Beach to NC it is going to take 10-14 days and only costs 900 each car. Everyone else was at least 1500 in a uncovered trailor. UAT is the best i could find.
The ocean transport is costing 899 a car and leaves this sat the 2 and gets to LB on the 8th. The whole deal should take about 25 days to a month.
You can get a enclosed trailor but that will run you an average of 1500 a car
Call Linda at 1-800-281-6999 You can tell them Dave from Hawaii told you about them. Not that it is going to get you a discount but she'll know how paranoid us FD owners are and take care of you.

I used Dependable Auto Shippers, www.dependableautoshippers.com I bought my FD sight unseen from San Fran and used them to ship. I went with an enclosed trailer since it was being transported x-country during the winter time (jan-feb). It took about 10 days to go from coast-coast (NY). It ran me about $1100, otherwise it would have been less ($600, I think). They did a thorough inspection before the car was loaded and another inspection at the terminus (NJ). Totally worth the cash. Just FYI.

I've driven an rx-7 from DC to San Francisco, and shipped an rx-7 from Los Angeles to DC. In the end the cost isn't that much different if you drive it yourself after gas, hotels, food, mileage, etc... I paid $700 to ship it on a carrier, they got it to me in 7 days so all the advice on here seems about right.
Having said that I'd highly recommend the drive at least once in your life, its not as bad in an FD as you think until you get to the crappy highways in CA which will rattle your suspension loose between the concrete joints and bots-dots. And depending on your speeding habits and sleeping habits it could probably be done in ~4 days.

I know you've gotten plenty of quotes. But I'll add the company and driver that did my FD. The driver called me and gave me status reports of where my baby was along the way...

You might also look at http://www.intercitylines.com/. They are not the cheapest, but are one of the best enclosed carriers in the country. They also have a "Snowbird Special" on shipping cars from the East Coast to "all places warm" going on now.
I shipped my car from California to the East Coast and was very happy with their service and communication while they had my car.

Shipping an FD
I both my FD and shipped it from San Diego, CA to Memphis TN. Cost is about $720.00 If you get a cheap shipper like this, your car will be moved from one transporter to another at least once.
I received mine at 11:00 PM and it was at the bottom location of the trailer during the transport. Guess what I saw in the morning, there were drops of dried oil on the hood. My FD has montego blue color and I did not notice it the night they unloaded the car. Luckily, I was able to rub it off with wax and its not a brake fluid that leaked from above. Although it's insured, it could still be a hassle.
Depending on the condition of your FD and if you can afford it, get the enclosed one. If not, just drive the FD.

Enclosed is a waste of money, they are carried in open carriers to dealerships when new. I paid 800 from long beach ca to virginia beach back in 98. Car was dirty as hell but everything was still there includung the pfs ic, hi flow cat, and hks evc that were left in the hatch. Ill get the name if your interested. Also the guys that picked up my last fd charged me half of what everyone else wanted they said they specialize in long distance tows. Bad service, made me wait 5 hours and they gave me attitude when I said I was going to call every hour on the hour to check on the truck, then the driver took 2 hours longer to get back to the beach than I did. Its only a 2.5 hour drive??
