Shifter shakes violently during launch

The shifter on my car seems to shake quite a bit during launches. It seems to occur when there is wheelhop. I also noticed that If I stab the gas pedal when the engine is at the right RPM the load actually causes the shifter to jump up about half an inch vertically. There are no other banging noises or creaks from the rear.

The car drives fine except for these high torque scenarios. Acceleration is fine once the tires catch. Is this normal?

Do not allow wheel hop. You can easily break your differential, not to mention the trans forward brace (PPF, thanks, Dale, below). This car is not made to do full throttle standing starts.

There have been several threads in the distant past on this.

You may have a cracked power plant frame. The engine, transmission, and rear end are all linked and should be one solid piece.

Typically you need to remove the PPF to examine for cracks.

Bad motor mounts can also contribute to this problem. How old are your motor mounts? Have they ever been replaced?

To launch like a bandit and protect your diff case and PPF you need the HPP 2in1 Diff cradle/brace:

If you want to minimize shifter movement and protect the PPF as well as the motor mounts, our Banzai Racing Transmission Crossmember is the part you are looking for.

I'm with Dave. It's not a drag car...stop launching it. THEN go get some aftermarket motor mounts, inspect your PPF and buy one or all of those braces.

I don't launch it too often. I've owned it for 3 years and have done it maybe 8 times or so and all around 4k rpms. Just enough to try and spin the tires on a country road. Half those times were trying to figure out why it was doing what it was doing.

The motor mounts are in good shape. I rebuilt the engine and replaced one of them. I will have to look into the PPF. Just needed a place to start. Thanks.
