shift **** wiggling

is it common for rx7 shifters to have a lot of play? by play, i mean when the car is engaged in gear, you can wiggle the shift **** left and right easily and a good distance. if not, would a short shifter fix this issue? or it is just how the rx7 transmission is designed?

The shifter bushings may be worn out .See if the three mounting bolts are tight , if they are pull them out and see the bushings .I guess you can buy the circle shape parts ,I know you can buy the cup shape bushing . I have made the circle shaped parts before .

Replace the small shiftuer bushing on the bottom of the shifter. It is about $5.00 from Malloy and will make a ton of difference. Takes about 5 mins to replace.

There are four plastic bushing and two wave washers that cost less then $30.00 and can be replaced in less than 15 minutes. But it's likely the dust boot is ripped, and that piece is about $20 bucks on it's own.
